Flow are the inventors of the original speed-entry system. Back in the 90s, a product design specialist called Werner Jettmar began studying standard ratchet snowboard binding and experimenting with more efficient ways to get them on and off. His eventual solution became the Flow system – a folding highback that allows you to put your boot in the back of the binding. Since they invented it, several other brands have imitated the system but the Five, Flow’s flagship freestyle model, is still the most popular folding highback binding.
As well as that folding highback the 2013-14 Flow Five also features their ‘Locking Slap Ratchet’ buckles which allow you to get in and out of the binding in a more conventional way should you so wish. It’s also got a ‘rockered baseplate’ that they reckon improves board feel, and a mid-soft flex that’ll suit anyone from intermediates upwards.
