Family Freestyle Weekend Recap

A weekend of family fun in Snowpark Alpendorf

For the third year The Family Freestyle Weekend kicked off in Snowpark Alpendorf, in the heart of Snowspace Salzburg and attracted around 200 enthusiastic family members. Over the 2 day session kids and parents were treated to the ultimate family fun weekend. The event kicked off early on Saturday with the opening of the free snowboard and ski test centre, the kids were able to test out hardware from Bataleon, Burton, Flux, Goodboards, Jones, Never Summer, Nitro, Rome and YES.

Once all the kids were decked out with their boards the sessions kicked off with a bang! Burton had their Riglet Park set up and were working diligently to get the tiniest shredders standing sideways and looked to be having a whale of a time. The Riglet scheme is such a rad way to get even the littlest of kids shred ready, and operates at events all over the world, head over to their website for more info!

St Johann local Snowboard School Toni Gruber was offering taster sessions for those who were curious about learning to snowboard, and there was a steady stream of new and interested faces cropping up wanting to join in the fun.

Blue Tomato and Shred Kids were hosting advanced snowboard freestyle coaching for the little rippers and getting the kids spinning, pressing and shredding the whole park. Shred Kids operates weekly sessions for the whole winter season throughout Germany for kids looking to improve their freestyle skills. The Alpendorf park was a perfect setting for the event as it’s got features to suit every skill level, from tiny grom up to seasoned pro- everyone is able to hit something and work their way up.

After a busy day on Saturday the lucky families were treated to a pasta party courtesy of Barilla followed by Bingo in the Kreisten Alm. After the food and fun, the revellers all had a mass shred down the hill together, kids and parents linking up to show off their new skills and the improvements they had made throughout the day.

Sunday followed the same format and after a busy day coaching, testing gear and learning new tricks and tips the family shred down ended up at the Gernkogelbahn where pro biker Thomas Klausner put on a trick show for the audience. The fact that no competition took place over the weekend gave the whole event a no pressure vibe, and allowed the kids to focus on having fun rather than stressing about the contest aspect. Overall, an awesome weekend and we’re looking forward to seeing the Family Fun Weekend back for 2020! If you’re keen to join in on the action keep an eye on the Snowspace Salzburg page!
