Nidecker Banked Slalom 2019

The Nidecker Group hosted their first Banked Slalom in Villars

1st April 2019 Nidecker hosted their first annual banked slalom in Villars, Switzerland, but believe us- this race was no joke. The Nidecker Group exclusively opened up the event to their Swiss shop stockists and their employees to battle it out for the blazing glory and eternal majesty awarded to all banked slalom hall of famers. Around 40 entrants from 18 shops threw their hat in the ring to try and ride away the victor, but sadly there’s only room for one on the top of the podium. It was a hotly contested day with the riders leaving it all on the course and going hell for leather down the freshly prepared track.

Is there any better feeling than turning and burning down a track? The wind in your hair, the spirit of 1000 snowboarders under your wings, the stark knowledge that if you catch an edge there’s a distinct possibility you’ll rupture your spleen? We think not. The yearning for turning movement has been gaining traction in the last few years and as a result, more and more banked slaloms are popping up round the world. It seems everyone and their mother now is hosting one, and we for one, are completely here for it.

Taking snowboarding back to its original and purest form- turning. If any company is right to be embracing this ancient art form it’s Nidecker who have several boards that make getting down onto your edge a positively orgasmic experience. Nidecker also support the popular Slice ‘N’ Dice webseries where riders travel the world praying at the sacred altar of the carve.

The course sat under the Grande Chamossaire chair, and spectators and entrants alike rode the chair throughout the day to catch an aerial view of the action. The course was crafted to perfection, the berms were mellow enough to keep the event accessible but set out in such a way as they would allow riders to hammer through if they wanted to.

Big up to the winners who smashed it and hopefully will be back next year to stave off the competition and defend their titles.

  2. André Schmid – Liestal – Radix
  3. Steve De Crousaz – Vevey – Altmann Sports
