Red Bull Recharged

Red Bull Recharged- A different kind of snowboard contest

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a stoned teenager on a snowboard? If you’re anywhere near Mammoth Mountain right now, you might see a bunch of riders boosting through an unusual looking course, one that has all the hallmarks of a serious and professional event, but seems to have none of the pressure and stress. Is it an energy drink induced hallucination? Nope, it’s the Red Bull Recharged.

Red Bull Recharged is the latest in a string of events that are pushing the onus from winning titles and pulling off robotic manoeuvres to rider progression and creativity. Not to say the spin to win format isn’t impressive as hell, it’s genuinely mind boggling to sit and watch what gravity defying rotations these shit hot riders pull off in comps, but the Red Bull Recharged aims to push snowboarding in a different direction.

Team Ben | PC: T.Bird

Conceived in the minds of Ben Ferguson and Mark McMorris, their lovechild blends all formats of snowboarding to create one Frankenstein-esque skatepark inspired course. The riders are split into 3 teams, with B-Ferg, McMozza and Brock Crouch acting as El Capitán. Instead of a traditional contest format, the teams get 3 days to stack as much footy as possible, with 10 clips being put forward from each team at the end to be judged by none other than prominent purveyor of powder Travis Rice.

The rosters are STACKED. Ben brings Sage Kotsenburg, Torgeir Bergrem, his lil’ bro Gabe Ferguson, Scott Blum, Zak Hale and Ryo Aizawa to the table for his freestyle feast.

Mark ain’t pullin’ no punches and is coming in hot with brother Craig McMorris, Sebbe de Buck, Scotty James, Toby Miller, Jake Canter and Mikey Ciccarelli.

Team Brock is full of heavy hitters, he’s chosen Maddie Mastro, Red Gerrard, Judd Henkes, Nik Baden, Yuki Kadono and Luke Winklemann to try and bring home the W.

With such a mix of riders and disciplines its gonna be one hell of an event. Keep your eyes on the ‘gram for all the latest content from the event, and prepare to have the dust blown off your replay button when the edit drops afterwards.
