Shape, Profile and Sidecut

One thing we’re really jazzed about is the fact that, for all of Jeremy Jones’ tinkering in workshops with surf shapers, he’s made the call to give this full camber. No rocker sections, just the classic bend. For our money, not enough park boards take that approach these days. When it comes to pop and power, nothing else comes close.

Of course, Jones can afford to do this in part because of its 3D-shaped bases. The spooned nose and tail make the edge changes feel more like a smooth gliding motion, and less like a scorp waiting to happen.

The blunt nose and tail have obvious benefits when you want to spin or get up onto a rail, but they’re also there to maximise float in softer snow. It might seem counter-intuitive, but physics never lies. While you won’t be expected to hit many pow fields on this, it’s also the case in spring slush, which will come in very handy on those late season send-off sessions. Plus the double-radius sidecut makes it ride like a less stubby deck on firmer terrain.

Construction and Materials

Like many a freestyle-specific deck, the Jones Tweaker features a 100% poplar core and biax fibreglass. This winning combination can withstand a season’s worth of abuse in the park, but doesn’t make the board too heavy or rigid.

The only additives of note are the stringers that transfer energy from the bindings to the edges. While these are often made of carbon, Jones uses its bespoke blend of naturally-occuring materials (flax and basalt) to improve response with minimal impact on the environment.

It racks up more eco-points elsewhere, thanks to the topsheet made from beans, the edges made entirely from recycled steel, and the Wend natural wax that slickens up the rapid sintered base. This is all par for the course for Jones, so if you’ve been looking for a new park stick but haven’t yet found anything green enough for your liking, your time has come.

This is an area of board design with more limitations than what you can get up to with a powder shape, but it’s good to see that Jones has squeezed every last drop of innovation and quality from the concept – most of which make it ideal for taking to other parts of the mountain, too. Jeremy Jones says this is no regular park board, and we’re inclined to agree.
