Oakley uses a futuristic injection-moulded Dura-Matter shell, which is laid over an expanded polystyrene foam liner. This is your first line of defence against classic head injuries like fractured skulls but damage isn’t always as obvious when it comes to your noggin.

MIPS allows the helmet and your head to rotate independently, there’s 10-15mm of movement between your head and the helmet in any direction at the moment of impact. This stops one specific part of your brain being subjected to the majority of the strain and thus offers better protection.

A new addition, and a welcome one, is twICEme, a medical ID chip that’s built into the MOD 1 Pro. In the event of an accident, responders can scan the chip with a smartphone to instantly get your medical information and your emergency contacts.
