The Jones Mountain Twin has a bit of a ‘Captain Sensible’ reputation – but that probably has more to do with the oddballs it shares a logo with, rather than any failing on its part. While it doesn’t fly its freak flag as high as, say, the Storm Wolf [link], it’s a long way from Dullsville.

Who Is The Jones Mountain Twin For?

We’re suckers for a Ronseal-eque name, and the Jones Mountain Twin has one of our favourites; not //too// on the nose (we’re looking at you, Lobster Park Board…) but still clear in its intentions. This is an all-mountain board in the truest sense, with a classic ice-lolly-stick shape that keeps all options open.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

It’s not a true twin, given the directional flex and the subtle extra length in the nose, but with zero taper this one can be ridden (or landed) switch with ease – and while ‘pressable’ wouldn’t be the first word we’d use to describe it, buttering is definitely on the cards. The 3D-shaped rocker sections at nose and tail help out in that department, and also come in handy whenever you’re changing edges.

The Jones Mountain Twin is also quite blunt at each end, helping you get your spins round and improving overall maneuverability. It’s not drastic, though, so when you really want to charge, you’ve still got a solid foundation.

“One thing the Jones Mountain Twin has in spades is dampening; get this up to top speed in cruddy terrain, and you’ll still be smiling when you come out the other side”

Construction and Materials

One thing the Jones Mountain Twin has in spades is dampening; get this up to top speed in cruddy terrain, and you’ll still be smiling when you come out the other side. That’s delivered partly by the core, which uses mostly paulownia with some poplar.

As well as being kind to your joints, it also gives Mother Nature a break. With the usual Jones combination of environmentally-friendly topsheet, sidewalls, resin and edges, this one gets you a Greenpeace boatload of eco points without compromising on quality.

“Crazy shapes are all well and good, but most people still need something that can get the job done no matter the conditions”

Roundup

Crazy shapes are all well and good, but most people still need something that can get the job done no matter the conditions. There are a lot of quiver-of-one options out there, with exciting newcomers appearing all the time – but for riders who value longevity over pazazz, the Jones Mountain Twin is here for you.
