Tech Talk
Fit, features, materials and construction
While not as suited to harsh conditions as, say, the Beyond Medals X pants, the Park pants still boast surprisingly decent specs for the price. Drawstrings at the waist and hems will keep them where they’re supposed to be, leaving you to enjoy the roomy comfort and freedom of movement every time you tweak a grab.
Tester Verdict
Sara Previte
“These hit the mark perfectly: they’re affordable, and look cool while still being functional. These fit extremely baggy, so you can definitely size down. The art logo on the bum is a very cool touch. Ideal for the freestyler, or those just looking for budget pants.”

At just 630g, it packs down impressively small for touring. A helmet-compatible hood with laminated visor, two oversized bellowed chest pockets (one with media pocket), handwarmers, arm pocket, adjustable powder skirt and internal storage handle the essentials. Fair Trade Certified construction helps you tread lightly.

“I wore Patagonia’s new Powslayer Jacket & Pants for a couple of days piste bashing around Val Gardena and Passo Tonale and appreciated the range of features (including lift pass pocket, and two capacious chest pockets) and the comfy fit. But it was when I got it out splitboarding that the jacket really came into its own. You really do feel the difference with Gore-Tex Pro when you start climbing – it just takes much longer to work up a sweat. I’ve worn a (non-recycled) Gore-Tex Pro jacket by another leading brand for the past couple of seasons, and this felt exactly the same in terms of supreme breathability. The vents on both the jacket and pants allow you to dump heat easily. I did a late-season mission to a peak in Italy’s Süd-Tirol region, with an early start, so I needed the warmth before the sun came up, and wore the jacket most of the way up. When I needed to take it off, it packed down impressively small and weighed very little in my bag. You’d expect nothing less from Patagonia, but both the jacket and pants are really great products.”

CATEGORY: Shell
WATERPROOF / BREATHABILITY: 20K/20K

Tech Talk
Fit, features, materials and construction
Everything you could want from all-rounder pants is present and correct in the Vans Hi-Country 3L, including mesh-lined vents, boot gaiters, powder skirt, and tougher material on the knees to prevent wear-out. Two big, glove-friendly thigh pockets keep your accessories within easy reach, and there are a couple on the back too.
Tester Verdict
Pat Nichols
“I wore these on numerous street missions, as well as for park laps. They held up so well that they became my go-to work pants when covering events for Whitelines. They’re hardy, so didn’t tear easily, had ample pockets, and somehow still looked stylish. No nonsense, high-quality kit. Oh, and I didn’t even waterproof them once, and they stayed dry throughout. Only negative is that the font facing pockets can cause a hell of a deadleg if you take a facefirst slammer. But honestly…if you’re pancaking the floor at speed, it’s gonna hurt anyway…”

Beyond Medals X 3L Pants 2025-2026
PRICE: €329.95
SIZES: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
CATEGORY: Shell
WATERPROOF / BREATHABILITY: 20K/20K
NEW FOR 25/26 SEASON: Yes
Why we chose the Beyond Medals X 3L Pants:
Sturdy specs combined with 90s-style bagginess isn’t a combination we can resist, quite frankly.
Who are the Beyond Medals X 3L Pants for?
These are baggy in the way that Spinal Tap’s ‘Smell The Glove’ album was black, so we expect fans of a roomier fit to lap these up.
Tech Talk
Fit, features, materials and construction
While the Beyond Medals X 3L are just shell pants, the multiple layers mean that it’ll keep the elements out better than most – especially once you consider the cinched leg hems. The 100% recycled fabric may not be as stretchy as some, but with that loose fit it’s not likely to be an issue.
Tester Verdict
Kevin Frank
“The thing I love most about these pants is that they are just so damn comfortable. They feel like wearing air, and offer exceptional mobility. They do their job standing up to the elements very well, although I do recommend layering up underneath them. Having pants with a baggy fit like this in a 3L option is really great for the freestyle-influenced all-mountain rider. Pockets in all the right places, the elasticated cinches on the bottom of the pants are perfect, and the baggy fit looks really, really good (in my humble opinion). I have rated these pants a 10/10 for appearance; however, please keep in mind I am Canadian and have a soft spot for real tree camo. The black option in these pants would be great for someone looking for a more toned-down look. Really great pants!”

Splitboarders and backcountry enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on weight, breathability, or environmental credentials when earning their turns.
Tech Talk
Fit, features, materials and construction
The Powslayer pant mirrors the jacket’s 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro ePE construction with 100% recycled nylon and PFAS-free treatment. Low-profile side vents dump heat on the skintrack, while watertight Vislon side zippers and bellowed cargo pockets expand for storage. A low-bulk fly with double-snap closure, belt loops, and internal elastic tabs dial the fit. At 547g, these things pack down small while making zero compromises in performance, plus they’re Fair Trade Certified – setting an important benchmark for the industry.

“A good quality, stylish jacket. The material didn’t feel super high quality, but it is Gore-Tex and didn’t feel bad. The jacket also has good, functional pockets and looks great (I got a lot of compliments in this thing). All in all, it’s simplicity done well.”

Tester Verdict
Sara Previte
“The outline pant is a cool baggy pant for the girls. Having a baggier fit caters to a wider audience. These weren’t extremely baggy, but the right amount to look cool. The details in the embroidered logo were a standout to me. A heavier shell pant with 10k waterproof / breathability. An entry-level shell for the market.”

Tester Verdict
Tristan Kennedy
“I gave the Beyond Metals Pro Tech Jacket 3L a high rating because it is a technical, comfortable shell that is more stylish than most on the market. Beyond Metals has done a good job at making this jacket high-tech while still looking like a snowboard jacket, rather than a mountaineering jacket. It says regular fit, but it is more on the baggy side (which is true across the line). The only thing I didn’t like was the Velcro cuffs on the sleeves; the material was harder than I would have liked. Great colour options and an incredible price compared to other jackets on the market. I gave it a low score for warmth because it is a shell, so not meant to be warm. But it was very waterproof, and with the right layers can be worn every day.”

To ensure no moisture sneaks in, the jacket features fully taped Bemis seams, locking out the elements for all-day comfort. As a shell, it’s the perfect outer layer for any condition – just adjust your base layers to match the temperature.
Tester Verdict
Sara Previte
“I tested this product in the Smokey pink colorblock. This is a very feminine colorway, but the bagginess counters it, giving it a stylish vibe. The color is very light and is for people who are good at keeping things clean. I find an anorak very uncomfortable, but it did have an easy entry with the full zip on the side. The kangaroo pouch gives loads of storage as well as two zip pockets. I wish the pass pouch were zippered, not Velcro. Big wrist cuffs made it easy to put mitts off and on.”

“Good quality, simple black pants. They aren’t super baggy and have more of a straight fit. They have a drawstring to pull tight if you don’t want to run a belt. The zips got stuck a little for me, but that may be just because it’s a sample.”
