We’d been wondering when the teaser for Standard Film’s new flick 2112 was going to drop and we’re still not quite sure why it took quite this long. No matter though as it’s here now and it’s heavy to say the least – in terms of tricks and tune. You’ve got Xavier de le Rue’s utterly bonkers frozen waterfall riding, a proper weird looking frontside/cab double into powder at 1:03 and a sunnies-dislodging triple cork, as well as a whole load of other urban, park and backcountry bangers. We have no idea how Frederik Kalbermatten took a slam like the one at the end of this and didn’t end up in a hospital bed.
The edit itself is pretty straightforward: no odd Star Wars sounds like we had in Black Winter or over the top after-effects like those in TB20 this time around – it looks like Standard are keeping things raw, bold and to the point, which is a good thing we reckon; if the riding is solid enough, it should speak for itself. Still, we find it a liitle odd that there are so many landed tricks shown in this – kind of defeats the point of a teaser if you’ve already seen the tricks being stomped no?
Standard are officially of legal drinking age in the states with this release (hence the name of the film), and we wonder whether 2112 will be able to top the excellent releases in TB20 and The Storming. We’ll be honest in saying that we weren’t completely blown away by the teaser, even if the riding was pretty damn impressive, but we’ll reserve full judgement until we’ve watched the whole thing.
2112 features the considerable riding talents of Tim Humphreys, Kimmy Fasani, Frederik Kalbermatten, Ethan Morgan, Chas Guldemond, Victor de le Rue, Nils Ardvisson, Anne-Flore Marxer, Gulli Gudmundsson and Mathieu Crepel.
