UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019-2020 Jones Dream Catcher here

Given the enduring popularity of the Jones Explorer, it makes sense that there’s also a similar board to be found in the brand’s impressive fleet of women’s boards. The Jones Dream Catcher women’s snowboard made its debut last winter, and is back for 2018/19 with all the same great features and an even more comprehensive size range.

The Jones Dream Catcher is built for the whole mountain, and is more conventionally-shaped than the likes of the Jones Mind Expander. The outline and directional flex pattern make it more stable when ridden in your natural stance, but switch is fine too.

“Despite only being a little directional in its design, our testers raved about the Dream Catcher’s powder performance”

Rocker sections at the nose and tail come in handy when you want to butter the piste, as does the slightly convex shaping of each end. Don’t worry about the ride feeling too ‘loose’, though; when you really want to engage the edge in a carve, the camber bend between the feet – combined with the wave running through the steel – ensures you get all the grip you need.

Given its relatively mellow flex rating, you shouldn’t just use this for charging – Jones makes plenty of other boards that are better suited to that. To really get the most out of this, mix things up as often as you can.

Despite only being a little directional in its design, our testers raved about the Dream Catcher’s powder performance. Whether it’s narrow tree runs or steep, open faces, the bevel really makes a difference to the float.

The topsheet is made from beans of all things, giving the Jones Dream Catcher an environmentally-friendly edge with no loss in performance. On the flipside, carbon has been worked into the sintered base for increased speed, provided you’ve waxed.

Smaller riders will appreciate the new 142 and 145 sizes, and (as is usually the case) it’s one of the finest-looking boards out there too. With its all-round chops and surprisingly low price, the Jones Dream Catcher will no doubt fly off the racks this winter.

Also available is the Jones Dream Catcher splitboard, if you’re looking for a mellower-flexing model to take out back.

Tester’s Verdict

Joy Dutchsnowboard-asylum.com

“The Dream Catcher is quickly becoming one of my favourite go-to boards for any situation. Its lightning fast base keeps you speeding along no matter the condition of the snow.

It’s the perfect board for powder days, and kept me floating effortlessly. Unlike some boards that perform well in the deep it feels very controllable on piste too, so there’s no need to worry about hopping on and off the side.

“It felt so stable and ‘locked in’ the whole time, even when it had early morning ice to contend with”

Carving was delightful and it felt so stable and ‘locked in’ the whole time, even when it had early morning ice to contend with. A lap through the park was super fun too. My only issue was it felt a teensy bit heavy, but in its defence it was a longer board than I would usually choose to ride.

I’d recommend the Dream Catcher for a rider who loves to rip and grip on piste, hunts out powder relentlessly, and wants a board that can keep up with them anywhere and anytime.”

Tester’s Verdict

Stella Penttiwhitelines.com

“I found this board a bit boring on the piste as I always found myself to be the last one of the crew to reach the lifts, which made me feel slightly frustrated as I like to ride fast. But, as soon as we hit the powder, this board was amazing!

“As soon as we hit the powder, this board was amazing!”

I had one of the best powder runs of the season when riding this board. It worked especially well when riding in the forest, and making turns in between narrow tree lines felt easy and effortless. The lightness of the board works really well in powder, and makes riding very enjoyable and floaty – exactly what you aim for when riding fresh pow.

As a powder board I really enjoyed riding this, but on the piste the lightness of the board made it not quite aggressive enough for my taste.

The Jones Dream Catcher is a great all-mountain board, easy to ride everywhere and perfect for powder days. It’s also very progression-friendly.”

Trade Secrets

Iris Lazzareschi – Team Rider, Jones

“I used to think I always needed to ride a stiff board to have fun. No longer! The Dream Catcher changed my whole perspective on riding a softer, more playful board. I can ride it fast, hold an edge on ice and I can pop ollies and butter it without washing out.

The Dream Catcher is my go-to board for cruiser days at the resort when I want to play around, but still charge off-piste.”
