What with the original Burton Flight Attendant being such a hit with backcountry fiends, it was a smart move to make a splitboard version. The Burton Flight Attendant Split is for those who want to eat up all the natural hits they can find, no matter how far flung.

“As the name suggests, if you don’t leave the ground with this one then you’re doing it wrong”

Burton haven’t felt the need to change any of what makes the solid version of this board so popular. It’s got a setback camber profile and minimally tapered shape, so will see you right through the carves on hard park. Once you hit the powder, it’ll float with ease.

However, the Burton Flight Attendant didn’t earn its reputation purely in the turns. As the name suggests, if you don’t leave the ground with this one then you’re doing it wrong. Some splitboarders are all about the high-speed lines, and that’s fine, but this one definitely belongs in the air. It’s therefore been designed to pop to the moon when you want it to, sporting a carbon beam within the lightweight core that enhances what the strong camber bend already brings to the table.

Furthermore, your feet are positioned in relation to the sidecut in a way that’s designed to make this feel more like a twin board when you’re approaching a jump. The Burton Flight Attendant Split is therefore perfect for those who already know their stuff off booters, and want to take it to the distant backcountry.

As for mounting, the Burton Flight Attendant Split features a very simple system based around Burton’s signature ‘Channel’ technology. Each half of the board boasts its own channel upon which you can quickly and easily mount your bindings. It comes complete with pucks that work brilliantly with Burton’s own Hitchhiker model – but just as it is with the regular Channel system, you don’t need to have Burton binders to make it work.

Riders more focused on powering down route one at high speed may prefer the Burton Dump Truck Split, but those seeking spines and cliff drops will definitely prefer this beauty.

Th Flight Attendant Split comes fitted with pucks, which work brilliantly with Burton's own Hitchhiker bindings but are compatible with others.

Tester’s Verdict

Sam McMahon – whitelines.com

“I used to own a Flight Attendant, and when the rumours broke that Burton were going to make a split version of this modern classic, it wasn’t just me that was excited – pretty much everyone who’d tried one before was frothing.

“That snap as you exit a turn, or pop a powder ollie… All time”

Obviously, it’s not as good on groomers as its older brother, but that power through deep turns is still as present as ever – an unusual trait in a splitboard. I still maintain that the setback, profile and nose shape here is one of the most balanced and precise – not to mention fun – powder shapes available, and it was a joy to be able to take this places out of reach of the lifts. That snap as you exit a turn, or pop a powder ollie… All time.

If you’re ready to drop that wedge on a brand new split but still want that playful feel from your board, I wouldn’t look any further than here. Go fast, go big and have way more fun, now with a splitboard.”

Trade Secrets

Marko Grilc – Team Rider, Burton

The Flight Attendant is the best backcountry freestyle board I ever rode, and to have it as a split is like a dream come true.

You can get up to anywhere that most people don’t go, and then hit every cliff and wind-lip on the way down without a problem.
