Over here at Whitelines – we’ve had a tumultuous past with Snowskating. Oft the question is asked about how legit the pursuits are of our binding-less brethren. Does a shortened board without attachment equal freedom, or just a lot of falling and a lack of style?
If we can happily watch rippers like ‘Ol Sleepy Stevens shred the snow and the streets – then why can’t we get down with a hybrid of the two?
Now, we’ve featured Ambition snowskates on here before, but this round up of their last ten years really turned our heads (take a look at the features like the one 28 seconds in if you want to know why). And with influential figures like Terje Haakonsen welcoming snowskating into the fold – it does look like the winds of change could be on their way.
I mean, we get it, handing out props to newfangled snowsports isn’t really in our nature as snowboarders – but this isn’t exactly new now is it? And even if it was – the technical difficulty (and similarity to snowboarding/skateboarding) of what’s going on surely deserves a little recognition. If we can happily watch rippers like ‘Ol Sleepy Stevens shred the snow and the streets – then why can’t we get down with a hybrid of the two?
But – we can’t make this choice for you. Let us know what you think in the comments – and make your voice heard. Is snowboarding about embracing what unites us – or have you seen too much of this shit already?
