As you may have heard, there are going to be no fewer than three Air & Style events this year, in Innsbruck, Munich and Beijing. The Chinese leg is of course the most interesting new development, for which they’ve roped in Shaun White to give it some headline razmataz. Still, ‘Oakley and Shaun White presents Air & Style Beijing 2010’ is quite a mouthful eh? Maybe they should have just taken a leaf out of Tony Hawk’s book and called it ‘The Shaun White Show’?
Nonetheless the event is happening, and it’s going to be mega. At least if this new hype-fest of a promo video is anything to go by. An Olympic stadium, 16 of the world’s best riders – including Kazu Kokobu, Mikkel Bang and Andreas Wiig – and $100,000 in prize money is a pretty potent recipe. And that’s before you get to the millions of impressionable young Chinese that’ll be tuning in, or the dodgy-sounding Ring of Glory…
The craziest thing, though, is that Shaun White isn’t even on the list of invited riders. He’s just leant his name to the thing! Wow, he must be laughing all the way to the bank.
