UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Nidecker Merc here
New for 2018/19, the Nidecker Merc snowboard packs a lot of the brand’s proven Swiss design into a very affordable option. Look again at that price; if you’re looking for your first snowboard, this should definitely be on your list.
The large rocker sections at each end of the Nidecker Merc make it very favourable for those first turns, as there’s less chance of a hang-up. Granted, you could say the same about a pure rocker or flat-based board, but with the Merc’s ‘CamRock’ you get more edge grip and ollie power. When you’re ready for more aggressive riding or freestyle, you’ve got everything you need.

The biax fibreglass makes it easy to manipulate as you start to get the hang of smooth turns. Then when you want to speed up, the base (despite being Nidecker’s least technical) is pretty rapid. It also has the same vibration-cancelling topsheet as the much higher-spec Nidecker Concept.
While it’s predominantly aimed at the beginner to intermediate end of the market, our experienced tester had only good things to say about its performance after putting it through the ringer. That, combined with its all-mountain design, mark this out as a great option for an affordable ‘resort’ board to add to a quiver.
For one of the best value snowboards out there, all levels of rider should check out the Nidecker Merc.
