UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Jones Solution here

Jones claim that this, the Jones Solution, is the world’s best-selling splitboard. While we haven’t verified that, we wouldn’t be shocked to discover that it was true. This is bound to please the touring newbie and seasoned splitter alike.

“If you find a nice open face with a mellow gradient, you won’t feel like you’re trying to steer an oil tanker”

You’ll obviously need to be fairly competent to tame the Jones Solution, otherwise you’ve no business heading deep into the backcountry anyway. At the same time, if you find a nice open face with a mellow gradient, you won’t feel like you’re trying to steer an oil tanker. A lot of that is due to the light weight of the poplar-and-paulownia core.

Carbon stringers have been added for 2017/18, so there’s a bit more torsional stiffness than before. If you really want to open this up Jones-style, it’ll give you a stable base from which to feel the G’s – as will the profile, which gives you camber power at the back with a blunt, rockered, crud-smashing nose.

As for its splitting capability, the Karokaram Ultra Clips system featured on the Jones Solution is simplicity itself, and feels solid every time. You might not quite forget you’re riding a splitboard, but it’s not far off. No wonder the Jones Solution continues to sell like hot cakes.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthie – whitelines.com

“It wasn’t exactly Jones-esque terrain I was riding this on, but that just reinforced how good this is for taking all over the mountain.

“It’s much lighter than I anticipated, and while obviously not torsionally soft, isn’t too far the other way either”

When riding on piste, it feels pretty much like a regular freeride board – and a damn good one at that. It’s much lighter than I anticipated, and while obviously not torsionally soft, isn’t too far the other way either. ‘Accessible’ is the word that most springs to mind – it’d make a great first splitboard.

Setting it up for touring is faff-free, and the notches for the Jones Nomad skins make everything just that bit easier. Naturally I wish I’d had it in powder, but on regular firm snow (and even some crappy scraped stuff) it was just excellent.”
