Even if you call your board ‘The Solution’, you can’t afford to get complacent and thing of it as the unimprovable finished product. Fortunately (and predictably) Jones doesn’t think like that, and so the Jones Solution splitboard has been refined a little for 2018/19.

The Jones Solution still has that all-mountain shape, slightly setback with extra rocker in the nose. Your usual stance works best, but there’s enough tail there to ride switch too. And given the considerable pop – enhanced this year by carbon stringers under your feet – it’s ideal for seeking out natural features in the backcountry.

“The ever-improving Jones Solution remains incredibly popular, and we’re expecting that to continue for 2018/19”

Get it airborne and you may appreciate the lighter-than-ever core. It’s still a blend of poplar and paulownia, though, so it’s no less strong than before. There’s steel at the nose and tail to provide extra impact protection, and the topsheet (made from Castor beans of all things) is famously resilient in the face of damage and exposure.

As for touring, it has a lot to offer. Tail clips make it quick and easy to fit purpose-built skins, and both the outside and inside edges have the ‘Traction Tech’ wave in order to grip the snow at more points. When traversing up a steep slope, you’ll be so glad those are there.

The ever-improving Jones Solution remains incredibly popular, and we’re expecting that to continue for 2018/19. From your first splitboarding adventure to your 101st, we bet this will see you right.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthiewhitelines.com

“The night before my test day with the Solution, it absolutely dumped. There were so many lines accessible by lifts that I didn’t once put this into touring mode. Having already done this on the 2017/18 version, I can attest to its ease of use – and, unlike last year, I finally had the chance to give it a shot in powder. So. Much. Powder.

“It pops well, floats easily, and is as responsive as you could ever need”

Riding a splitboard when you don’t actually need to do any splitting has the potential to feel like a waste, but that wasn’t the case here. The Solution barely feels like a splitboard even when you’re on the piste, so in the deep stuff I had zero complaints.

It pops well, floats easily, and is as responsive as you could ever need. The base is nice and fast, and it never feels anything less than 100% stable. Perhaps it is a little lighter this year, like they say, but it was already aces in that department, so I wasn’t conscious of the difference.

After lunch I swapped it out for the Jones Storm Chaser. but only because it was a test day, and the Solution had already proven its worth. This really is a terrific splitboard.”
