As well as a pretty substantial range of snowboards, Jeremy Jones puts his name to certain bits of backcountry kit too. All of it’s been extensively tried and tested by the man himself, so you know it’s something in which you can put your faith. Case in point: these Jones Nomad splitboarding skins.
“These glide well across more level terrain, making life a whole lot easier when on long tours, but can also get a decent grip with the snow on steep climbs”
These Swiss-made skins are made from roughy 2 parts Mohair to one part synthetic nylon. This particular blend is used because it glides well across more level terrain, making life a whole lot easier when on long tours, but can also get a decent grip with the snow on steep climbs. It’s not an easy balance to strike, but the Jones Nomad skins pull it off.
You can either buy these pre-cut to the size you need, or you can get ones that you trim yourself. At the top of both is a metal loop that’ll sit nicely over the front of each half of your splitboard. They differ at the tail end, though, but both systems work well.
