Even though their long-serving sticks like the Burton Custom and the Burton Feelgood remain some of the world’s most popular snowboards, the folk at the B never shy away from introducing new decks built with a particular purpose in mind. Case in point: the Burton Story Board.

“The Burton Story Board has earned a place in Burton’s premium pow-chasing line, the Family Tree”

The Burton Story Board women’s snowboard is, as is heavily hinted by the shape, designed for freeriding. The crescent tail is immediately obvious, even if the taper and setback camber are not. Plus it’s been emblazoned with the Family Tree logo, meaning it’s earned a place in Burton’s premium pow-chasing line.

It’s definitely its own animal, but the board in the men’s line that it most closely resembles is the Burton Flight Attendant. Both have that 10-milimetre taper, as well as ‘Balanced Freeride Geometry’. Simply put, the binding reference points and the sidecut of the board are set back in such a way that your feet sit in the middle of the sidecut. You still have more nose than tail, but when you’re not fully railing the turns this feels a lot more like a standard twin board.

This means that it’s more freestyle friendly than most Family Tree boards. You might not want to lap the park on the Burton Story Board, but it’s ripe for naturally-sourced air time – whether off small side hits near the piste, or massive cliff drops out of bounds.

A layer of carbon compliments the fibreglass, but it’s mellower than it could be, preventing this board from being too torsionally stiff. You can still charge on it though, with a sintered base that’s not only quick, but also made from reclaimed materials that boost this board’s eco score.

The Burton Story Board also has a lightweight core that’s made even lighter thanks to a process that uses varying thicknesses of wood to improve pop. It also improves the overall stability of the ride, whether on piste or off it.

Cap it off with a topsheet design by legendary lensman Dean Blotto Gray, and you’ve got a board that any and all pow-loving, airtime-seeking ladies should be seeking out.

Tester’s Verdict

Tammy Estenmintsnowboarding.com

“If I believed in Father Christmas I would bake him mince pies 365 days a year in return for the Burton Story Board! I WANT THIS BOARD! It’s as simple as that. The Burton Story Board is for ladies who charge hard in the backcountry.

“It was one of those boards that you feel in tune with right away”

Before even getting strapped in I was pleasantly surprised at how light the Burton Story Board is. Then once riding it was one of those boards that you feel in tune with right away – it felt like we had been lifelong partners in crime!

This directional freeride board was really solid underfoot, and blasted through any snow conditions I could throw at it. It was a snappy and responsive ride, making it really easy to turn. I really felt that I could put my trust in this board, and always got exactly what I wanted out of it.

I would highly recommend this board for any adventurous female rider wanting an aggressive freeride board.”
