Why we chose the Rome Stale Crewzer Snowboard: Stale’s daily driver? Shotgun!

Having your own pro model tends to rubber-stamp your status as a true legend in the game, but when you get three snowboards and a set of bindings bearing your name, you’ve truly become a God amongst men. The Stale Crewzer is Sandbech’s most versatile, all-mountain deck in his signature quiver, fired up for park laps and pow lines alike. Whether you’re looking to drop into the jump line, or drop into a backcountry chute, this one’s well worth dipping into your pockets for.

Every all-mountain board worth its salt knows that the shape and profile are where the majority of their versatility comes from. Rather than trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, Rome have kept to their tried and tested Fusion Camber tucked inside a directional twin outline.

“When you get three snowboards and a set of bindings bearing your name, you’ve truly become a God amongst men”

There’s a mid-body camber running through most of the snowboard’s length which delivers edge hold and power when you’re churning up the groomers of launching off features. The small pockets of rocker in the tip and tail increase its ability to float off-piste and keep the ends a bit more playful for pressing on.

Snowboards of this nature are designed with plenty of switch riding in mind and the Crewzer has a twin contact surface area with even tip and tail widths, so it’ll feel totally balanced whichever way you point it.

The directional element only comes into play at either end, where the blunt tail and elongated nose help to sink the backend into deeper snow and keep the front lifted. If the conditions are chopped up, that extra volume in front of you will do some of the grunt work to maintain stability and continue tracking through the crud.

It’s not the stiffest of snowboards, but that’s what bolsters its freestyle credentials. Using a combination of biax and triax laminates on either side of the poplar and paulownia Pop Core make it both light and snappy but don’t limit it’s torsional flex between the feet, meaning you can butter and jib down the home run without the need for an ice pack on your quads at the end of the day.

“Its ability to blend in across the whole mountain is, ironically, what makes it stand out so much”

The addition of the Twin Single Carbon HotRods livens up the tip and tail, both in terms of its pop and its response rates. When it’s time to send it skywards, you’ll feel the added snap underfoot and when you’re cranking up the carving angles the HotRods work to keep core stable and allow the edge to grip more effectively.

Snowboards that claim to tick all the boxes are often met with some scepticism. After all, with models in Rome’s line, like the Ravine Select or the Artifact, there are options out there that can really dial up the performance in specific types of terrain. But the Stale Crewzer really is one of those snowboard’s that seems to have cracked the code to deliver genuinely versatile performance. Its ability to blend in across the whole mountain is, ironically, what makes it stand out so much.

“All New for winter 2021, Rome Snowboard’s team rider Stale Sandbech’s daily driver the Stale Crewzer is a fun, responsive all-mountain daily driver. This board was such a fun ride with the fusion camber offering up a really smooth freestyle feel, with a reassuring response and power.

The Stale Crewzer ticks all the boxes I want from an all-mountain snowboard- responsive and fun on the groomers, plenty of pop for the park and hits, float in the sidecountry powder or crud. If you’re a seasonaire riding everyday and want a fun versatile snowboard for all mountain adventures, the Stale Crewzer is definitely worth checking out.”
