The Northwave Domain CR is a freeride focused boot, aimed at big mountain riders with a penchant for exploration off the beaten track. Not ones to rest on their laurels, the design team at Northwave have stuffed the Domain with state-of-the-art hidden treasure for the 2020/21 season that’ll impress even the most discerning rider.
Fully crampon compatible, the Domain CR blurs the lines between a snowboard boot and a mountaineering boot. The thick rubber rand that circles the boot is an extra layer of protection against the elements and ensures long lasting durability when kicking into the snowpack. A hard wearing Vibram rubber sole has been developed to offer grip when you need it and some padding when you don’t, the deep tread is primed to stand the test of time.
“If you’ve got the chops then the Domain has a whole tank of gas”
Logic dictates that a boot with crampon attachment points is going to be used for walking as well as riding. Northwave have prepped for this eventuality by kitting out the Domain CR with their ultra-comfy TF3 heat mouldable liner boot. If the straight out the box fit isn’t quite perfect, simply mould the liner to your foot and get precise fit, elimination of dead zones and long-lasting comfort.
Speedlaces are a happy medium for many riders, straddling the line between a traditional lace and boa. They’re still super quick and easy, without any of the faff and hassle found in some systems. Two laces manage the upper and lower zones of the boot, allowing for adjustment of fit, with a separate internal lace and heel lock system really fine tune the fit.
The stiff flex lends itself to aggressive riding, offering mega precision and control when it matters most. Newer riders would do well to check out a more mellow offering, the Northwave Domain CR has a high barrier to entry, but if you’ve got the chops then the Domain has a whole tank of gas.
