New for this year and riding high on last season’s hype of the men’s version, the Rome Women’s Ravine is a powerful all-mountain freeride charger, ideal for experienced riders who want to attack the biggest lines and the gnarliest terrain.
Rome went back to the drawing board with their entire line for 2020/21, completely overhauling every product to burst into the season with a more concise and calibrated offering. They’ve eschewed the hyperbolic brand spiel, bringing simplicity and no-nonsense tech to the forefront.
“While the Ravine is a powerhouse on the piste, it really comes into its own in the deeper snow”
The most aggressive board in their women’s lineup, the Ravine isn’t ideal for newer riders or shrinking violets, the powerful camber and speedy sintered base will take you for a ride if you’re not careful. Two Carbon Hotrods run from the rear insert pack to the contact point to bolster the precision in the tail, working with the positive camber profile under the backfoot to drive power through your slashes and gripping through the full arc of your turns.
While the Ravine is a powerhouse on the piste, it really comes into its own in the deeper snow. Directional in every sense of the word, it transitions into an early rise rocker in the slightly softer nose, with the setback stance keeping your weight further down the board, sinking the tail to seesaw the nose up and out of the snow. The big ol’ blunt shape up front utilises a 5.5mm taper to create disparate surface area delivering agile turns and a big scoop of extra float for those blower pow days.
The barrier for entry is higher than some, but the results are sublime, if you’ve got the chops to handle it, the Rome Women’s Ravine is a real powder hog, raring to get out there and get the goods.
