Jones has done everything possible to keep the spirit of the solid Mind Expander alive in the split version, but naturally some differences have crept in, including the loss of the flax/basalt stringers that deliver added response. The core is also paulownia and poplar (Jones’ preferred splitboard-specific calibration) rather than paulownia and bamboo. It’s still pretty light, though, which is as good for the way up as it is for the way down. New for this winter is an improved Karakoram clip system, which is lighter than last year’s version but just as easy to fine-tune.
