Why We Chose The CAPiTA Birds Of A Feather: After the reaction of our test team, there’d be a riot if we didn’t.

Based on the design of the award-winning CAPiTA Defenders of Awesome, the Birds of a Feather is one of the most versatile women’s boards on the market. It’s unashamedly a snowboard for ladies who want to rip, but thanks to its forgiving profile and mid-stiff flex, you don’t have to be a pro to make the most of it.

Whilst super aggressive riders might find it a bit mellow, anyone else will be able to get on board with the playful nature and easy-going personality of the Birds of a Feather.

Who Is The CAPiTA Birds Of A Feather For?

Riders who are looking for one board to do it all and do it well. Pretty much any rider who’s graduated past their first few days on the hill will find something to love here.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Built around an advanced true twin outline that’s been engineered to deliver the perfect balance of freestyle feel and control with all-mountain versatility, the Birds of a Feather is the perfect shape to deliver a really adaptable ride wherever you decide to take it, especially if you’re looking to hotlap the park or work on your switch game. This paired with the friendly flex is why we’d err towards putting the Birds of a Feather towards the freestyle end of the all-mountain spectrum, and whilst you can still absolutely go sniffing out powder stashes we prefer riding it in-bounds.

It takes full advantage of the benefits of traditional camber through the midbody, zero camber out past the contact points, with a smidge of rocker in the nose and tail. You get the pop and response you’d expect to have in a regular cambered board but also the predictability, easy turn initiation and hook-free ride you’d usually expect from a reverse cambered board. It’s a best-of-both-worlds approach that delivers everything that you could want from a true all-terrain snowboard.

Construction and Materials

The Birds of a Feather takes design cues from the iconic DOA, but CAPiTA use women’s specific geometry and shaping to really dial in the ride. The bods at CAPiTA take a pretty space-age approach with their tech, and internally, the Birds of a Feather makes the most of this and doesn’t hold back when it comes to construction. It’s this mix of high-end materials that gives this board its perfect balance of rider-friendly feel and class-leading performance. Heading this up is the advanced P2 Superlight core that combines Paulownia and Poplar to create a lightweight but powerful foundation for the Birds of a Feather.

However, to give the board a bit more pop and power through the length without sacrificing the more rider-friendly flex, Capita’s engineers add carbon beams running either side of the insert packs from contact point to contact point. These carbon beams work in harmony with the more freestyle-focused biax glass structural layers to deliver the Birds of a Feather’s balance of on-piste performance and freestyle feel.

To ensure that the Birds of a Feather has all the speed you need to take advantage of its state-of-the-art build, it utilises the super-fast Quantum Drive base. This base material is an evolution of Capita’s regular Ultradrive base and is a little denser and has better wax-holding properties.

Roundup

Softer, lighter and slightly narrower than the DOA, but the Birds of a Feather definitely holds its own against its big brother. A real go-anywhere, do-anything snowboard. Whether you’re lapping the park with your crew, cutting up the corduroy or sniffing out pockets of powder, you’ll find a reliable playmate with the Birds of a Feather. It’s one of our favourite boards for this season for its versatility, playful nature, eco creds and all-round fun factor.

Pros:

  • Super versatile in a range of terrain
  • Fun with a capital F

Cons:

  • It’s not our favourite board to ride super deep snow

Tester’s Verdict

Joy Dutch – Wordsmith, Whitelines

“YES! I could just leave it there, but I’ll explain a little bit. Very rarely do I find ‘quiver killers’ live up to the hype but I’m happy to report the CAPiTA Birds of a Feather absolutely does. But not only does it smash it all over in any terrain, it’s actually pretty easy to ride? Some performance-orintated snowboards are great but my god they’re a bit of a chore to ride, no such issues here. Great for cruisy riding when you’re feeling lazy or scranned a few too many beers the night before, but really able to go hard when you’re feeling like you want to push it. I’m a big fan, I think I’ll be adding one of these to my colelction this season.”
