The waterproofing on both the Steeze jacket (10K) and the Snow Down pants (15K) is more than sufficient to keep you dry even in downpours and heavy snow. With a slightly higher waterproofing on the pants, they’re sufficient enough for you to spend time sitting down on your knees and bum as well, within a reasonable time of course.

When it comes to sustainability points, Quiksilver is scoring fairly high here too as 52% of both the fabric on the jacket and pants is made using recycled nylon. In fact, since 2021, 93% of Quiksilver’s outerwear line is made using sustainable components, whilst 100% of their black linings are solution die, meaning less water and energy has been consumed in the colouring process.

Both the jacket and the pants have also been given an extra boost of waterproofing and the chosen durable water repellency coating isn’t just a great choice for added protection, as Quiksilver’s uses a PFC-free DWR. In other words, this means no Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs) chemicals have been added to the coating, as they lack the inability to decompose naturally, lingering on in the air, thus harming animals and humans.

Fit and Features

The already baggy fit combined with the unisex cut will make for a perfect oversized fit, especially for the ladies. However, both the jacket and the pants run quite short, so if you’re tall you might want to size up – this goes for both men and women.

As for features, Quiksilver knows that sometimes simplicity is key, and there’s no need to overdo it with the latest innovations. The jacket features an adjustable fixed hood, a fixed powder skirt, a large kangaroo pocket, a pass pocket, hand-warmer pockets with a key clip and mesh-lined underarm vents for added ventilation.

The pants come with a drawcord waist adjustment and an internal waist adjuster to make it easier to adjust them to a specific waist size, a lift ticket holder, mesh-lined venting and an elasticated bottom hem.

Definitely one of the most outstanding and cheerful outerwear designs we’ve seen this season – it will be hard not to have a good time when riding down the slopes in these. The added comfort and unisex fit are a perfect cherry on top when you’re turning heads on the slopes.

Pros:

• Unisex fit – we need more of this. Stoked that Quiksilver is making their collection more unisex thus providing the ladies preferring baggier fits with more options
• Design and patterns are very unique for what else is out there

Cons:

• The short cut on the pants might be a problem for the long-legged riders

“I’ve always been a big fan of Quiksilver and ever since they released their retro-vibey High Altitude collection I’ve been keen to see what interesting designs each season will bring.

I rode in the Quicksilver Steeze Jacket and Snow Down Pants for a full two days when out in France in mid-March. The unisex fit was great, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so comfortable in any snowboard outerwear before. We were lucky with the weather though, as this is a plain shell, so without a puffy mid-layer underneath I’m pretty sure I would have been feeling the cold.

As for the cut, the S-sized jacket was a really good fit on me – it was just long enough and not over-oversized in the sense that I would have looked like I was drowning in it. The pants too felt really comfortable and made twisting and turning feel really easy as there was so much space compared to my go-to slightly tighter fitted snowboard pants. However, what I found to be a bit of an issue was the length of the pants. I’ve got quite long legs, so I struggled with the pants always rolling up over my boots.

All in all, I do have to say that Quik’s done a good job with fitting the outerwear to suit both genders, and I’m happy they do market it as unisex because the designs are really unique and just wearing them puts a smile on your face.”
