Introduced last year, the Giro Ella women’s snowboard goggles instantly won the approval of team riders Enni Rukajarvi and Klaudia Medlova, as well as the wider population. Back for 2018/19, they’ve proven themselves as one of the highest-performing female-specific frames around.
These boast a pretty wide shape, ideal for riders who want maximum peripheral vision, but are roughly the same height as more standard fare. As a result they aren’t so crazy big that you’ll be aware of them as you ride, but the visuals are excellent.

In the ongoing struggle for lens-tech dominance, Giro has teamed up with optical specialists Zeiss. The resulting ‘VIVID’ lenses have excellent contrast-boosting properties, and are one of the better options on the market today.
The one featured on the Giro Ella goggles has a cylindrical, ‘frameless’ design with only a hint of the supporting structure visible at the top. The injection-moulded construction eliminates any distortion, further adding to its vision chops.
Lens changing is quick and easy thanks to the combination of magnets and a more traditional pin system. The magnets in the centre will guide the lens to the correct position, leaving you to simply press the pins in place at the corners of the frame.
Along the top of the frame you’ll find a layer of foam covered in a mesh of thin wires. Only available on a select few Giro goggles, the system directs moisture through the foam and out of the lattice. It’s quite a tough structure too, giving the Ella extra points for durability.
