Like the Ion and the Moto, the Burton Ruler has been around for donkey’s. Performance-wise (and price-wise) it sits somewhere in the middle of those two, so is a great option for the progressing intermediate and the cost-conscious expert alike.
“The sole is different depending on which colourway option you go for, but both versions are pretty tidy”

The liner on the Burton Ruler contains Thinsulate insulation (which you’ll also find in a lot of gloves, mitts and outerwear). Even when it dips well below freezing, you’ll stay warm in this. You’ve also got help in this regard from the reflective foil above the sole, which keeps the heat in and the cold out.
The sole is different depending on which colourway option you go for, but both versions are pretty tidy. The ‘DrynoGrip’ outsole offers a bit more grip, while the ‘EST Optimized’ version (seen here) is a better fit with Burton’s disc-free EST bindings, such as this Burton Mission. Both have the gel insert at the heel, though, so are equally capable of minimising impact damage in that area.
Getting a supportive fit is a piece of cake thanks a combination of the liner’s inner lace lock, and the outer shell’s speed-lace system. You can alter the tightness of the latter to better match your preference, as the upper and lower zones are controlled by different laces.
It’s a classic for a reason – and thanks to the comprehensive size range, there’s a Burton Ruler for everyone.
