adidas put just as much care into their snowboard range as they do with every other sport they are involved in – and often borrow tech to improve the experience of mountain-dwellers everywhere. Jake Blauvelt has been involved since the start, and oversees the brand’s most sophisticated models, including the adidas Acerra ADV. New for 2017/18, it’s a serious bit of kit that bolder riders will definitely want to take a look at.

“Any boot built for Blauvelt-level thrashing needs to have a good cushioning system, and the Acerra ADV features adidas’ unique Boost foam”

For the first time, adidas have incorporated the Boa closure system into their range – and it’s a case of ‘in for a penny, in for a pound’, as they’ve gone for the double-coiler option. One controls the upper part of the boot, and one the lower, so you can get the exact level of tightness that you want.

Also helping with the fit is the Gold Level liner, which writes a big cheque with that blingy colour scheme, but thankfully cashes it with excellent comfort and customisation. It’s heat-mouldable, but even if you forego that process and just let your foot do its thing, the dual-density material will ensure you get the best possible fit.

Any boot built for Blauvelt-level thrashing needs to have a good cushioning system, and the Acerra ADV features adidas’ unique Boost foam. It’s quite soft to the touch, and looks a little like packing foam, but make no mistake: this is top-shelf tech that soaks up a huge amount of chatter, as well as redirecting the energy into your next turn. It also holds up much better in cold temperatures than a lot of the other options out there.

“This boot can do it all, and is a little taller than average in order to deliver maximum support”

Protecting it from wear and tear is a sturdy rubber sole that offers plenty of grip when you’re hiking a line, or a park feature. This boot can do it all, much like its hard-charging patron, and is a little taller than average in order to deliver maximum support.

With so much at play here, that price tag shouldn’t come as a surprise. If you’re after high-end materials put to the best possible use, the adidas Acerra ADV is definitely one to consider.
