NOW Drive 2017-2018 Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 NOW Drive here

While they cater for all kinds of rider, it seems like it’s the powder hounds that have the most love for NOW Bindings. It’s this, the NOW Drive binding, that Jeremy Jones bolts to the boards that bear his name.

Jezza is clearly a fan of the ‘Skate Tech’ system that features on all NOW binders. As you roll from nose to tail and vice versa, the NOW Drive rocks through a central kingpin, increasing and decreasing pressure on each edge as you ride.

“The NOW Drive will comfortably meet the demand of any serious freerider”

This means that more energy goes straight to where you need it, and less goes into the baseplate itself where it can lead to foot fatigue. You can also switch out the bushings that the central hanger rests on, customising the amount of dampening that you get.

As you might expect for a Jones-approved binder, the NOW Drive is quite stiff, with a relatively tall highback (although still shorter than those used by a lot of rival brands). The ankle straps have extra reinforcement to handle sketchy conditions underfoot, too.

All told, the NOW Drive will comfortably meet the demand of any serious freerider – although if you’re really into sending it, the stiff-as-f**k NOW O-Drive might be worth a look too.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthie – whitelines.com

“Some people will tell you that Skate-Tech is a Marmite feature that you’ll either adore or despise. That wasn’t my experience – at no point when riding the NOW Drive did I feel that I’d been a fool to ride normal bindings for so long, nor did I yearn to be back on more standard fare.

“The NOW Drive is comfier than your average freeride-focused binding”

What I did feel was that the NOW Drive is comfier than your average freeride-focused binding, and well-built in every respect. Foot pain wasn’t an issue, and in varying conditions they always felt strong and responsive.
There’s the option to swap the ankle straps around to get a different degree of support, but I didn’t get round to it. I was enjoying the comfort and performance of the NOW Drive plenty as it was
