NOW Drive 2018-2019 Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 NOW Drive here

Jeremy Jones has made no secret of his love for NOW, to the point that the brand’s unique ‘Skate-Tech’ system features on both of Jones Snowboards’ new binding models. Furthermore, he still puts his name to this pair of responsive freeride binders in the NOW range.

The NOW Drive snowboard bindings (or ‘Drive by Jeremy Jones’, to give them their full name) are designed for the steep and deep. They feature stiff, responsive highbacks and carbon-enhanced bases, all the better for control and response at speed. Naturally the Skate-Tech is still present and correct (read more about that here), and it remains a popular system among serious pow chasers.

The Now Drive bindings also have some neat customisable features. Swap the ankle straps to change the amount of freedom to flex down through your boot, or change the Skate-Tech system’s bushings between two different levels of firmness. Just bear in mind that whatever adjustments you make, these will still have a definite freeride focus.

It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s still nice to see the strap buckles getting an upgrade. The new-look versions are even easier to crank than the previous ones, and thanks to some clever materials are lighter as well.

Backed by a lifetime warranty, the NOW Drive bindings are ones you can trust, even as you push your limits in the backcountry.

Tester’s Verdict

Chris Aitkensnowboard-asylum.com

“I really like NOW Bindings full stop. It feels Skate-Tech is finally established, and beyond being questioned as a Kickstarter-style gimmick – and with a full range of bindings to choose from there, are options to suit all riders and budgets.

“I really liked the firm materials in the straps – they felt totally secure whilst being very comfortable”

For me, Skate-tech just makes sense. The change in feel from a regular baseplate is subtle but important. I genuinely think it makes the experience of turning the board a little better without completely changing how your snowboard rides. Quicker to turn and offering more dampening in cruddy conditions, they feel super comfy to me.

The Drive bindings are towards the top end of NOW’s offering but without getting to the point of the full carbon models. These felt lightweight and super responsive without being overly stiff. I really liked the firm materials in the straps – they felt totally secure whilst being very comfortable, due to the fact that there is never any feeling of wanting to crank them overly tight.

Overall, I was very impressed with these.”
