Nidecker Sky 2019-2020 Snowboard Bindings Review

  • Sizes: S/M, L/XL
  • Flex: 7
  • Entry System: Classic
  • Price: £149 / €160

If you’re looking for a binding softer than the Nidecker Carbon or the Nidecker Team, look no further. The Sky is a mellow addition to Nideckers hardcore binding line, offering the classic Nidecker feel with a softer flex.

The Nidecker Sky gives the less experienced shredders out there an option to roam around the whole mountain. This is a forgiving binding, ready to boost your confidence levels through the roof, and by the end of the day you’ll be charging down the groomers feeling like you’ve done it for years.

“The baseplate is shaped to increase lateral flex, without compromising precision or support”

With the precision baseplates and asymmetric highbacks, you can be sure that these bindings do not lack in any tech. The baseplate is shaped to increase lateral flex, without compromising power or support. Add the EVA footbed to it, and you’re in for a smooth vibration absorbing ride.

The highback is designed to transfer the energy from the baseplate in the most ideal way so that you’ll get the perfect amount of balance and control to your ride. This will also increase the responsiveness and comfort of the bindings. Despite getting the Nidecker tech treatment, these bindings sit at an insanely low price point.

Tester’s Verdict

Rob McCreathWhitelines

“You’d have to be a bit of a penny pincher to fault these bindings given their price point. There’s nothing exceptional going on here, but for under one-fiddy, they deliver comfort and mellow performance.

They’re definitely aimed towards beginner and progressing riders. The highback is supportive, but really quite soft, and there’s no fancy tricks or tech going on with the straps. For riders who just want quick comfort and straight forward all-mountain performance, these’ll do the job nicely.

You can still adjust the height of the heel strap position, along with the tool-free forward lean adjuster, and the toe straps can be worn over the ends or on top of the boots so most boot brands will find a way to fit well into these things.

“They didn’t feel premium in any way, but it achieves what it sets out to do – deliver comfort on a budget”

At that price, you might expect to find the odd pressure point or niggle with straps working loose or not really contouring the boots very well. For me, no such issues were experienced. They didn’t feel premium in any way, but it achieves what it sets out to do – deliver comfort on a budget.

Whether you’re starting out making your first turns, dipping your toes into pockets of powder, or attempting to lock in your first tricks, these will keep up with you all the way. Once you’re ready to step things up a bit, you’ll need to consider upgrading to something like the Team.”
