The vast majority of snowboard bindings walk the line between flexy and stiff, in order to appeal to what is by far the biggest chunk of the market. However, those who have a need for speed should always go for something more rigid – which is where the Bent Metal Solution comes in.

If you pick one of these up and try and manipulate the highback with your hands, you’ll have your work cut out for you. The carbon really is stiff, yet almost impossibly light. When bombing a hill at Mach 10, you couldn’t ask for more.

There’s more carbon under your foot too, in the Drive Plate. This gives you unbeatable edge-to-edge response, as everything’s so firmed up under your foot. Even as you near warp speed, moving from your heels to your toes (or vice versa) is lightning fast, and will probably encourage you to go even faster.

Of the three Bent Metal bindings in the men’s line, this is the one that’s most likely to be favoured by those who like to crank their forward lean. Doing so on the Bent Metal Solution couldn’t be easier; just point the urethane cuboid at the back in one of four directions, and you can quickly and easily set different levels of lean. It literally couldn’t be simpler.

It’s not for everyone, but the right rider will find that for them, the ‘Solution’ is just that.

Tester’s Verdict

Ed Blomfield – whitelines.com

“Bent Metal bindings are brilliantly simple, which is exactly what you need when it comes to the interface between you and your board. I’ve had so many buckles and highbacks break over the years, but these seemed bulletproof.

The block on the highback gives four settings for forward lean – more than enough for 99% of riders, not least myself since I always run with zero lean. It’s idiot-proof to use and, crucially, there’s nothing to slip or snap. The straps look a bit spartan but they proved comfy as well as lightweight, which proves ergonomics matters more than padding.

Riding wise, the Solution is super responsive – possibly too much so for most riders. The highback and Drive Plate are both carbon-based, which means zero delay when inputting power on both the toe and heel edge, but also very little forgiveness.

If powerful freeriding is your thing then these are ideal, but if you prefer a little flex then check out the Bent Metal Transfer, which has similar no-nonsense design without the ‘locked in’ vibe that carbon adds.”
