Best Snowboard Gloves 2020-2021 | Our pick of the best gloves to keep your fingers safe from the elements

There's plenty of gloves out there to choose from, which is why we've listed our favourites for this winter to help you choose

When choosing the right pair of snowboard gloves, there are a few things you ought to bear in mind: fabric, waterproofing, breathability, durability, warmth, and fit. That’s before you even start considering all the other fancy features that may not be a necessity but which can make the glove you go for a bit more fun and user-friendly.

To help you select the perfect glove we’re going to break down the key things to consider in a (hopefully) useful way. And then, we’re going to show you our top selections. Consider us your helping hand.

“Choosing a Gore-Tex glove is always a safe bet on this front. No dramas”

The fabric that’s been used to make the glove is of the utmost importance as this often defines the gloves waterproofness, breathability, and durability. You want to make sure the glove rates high at all three since there’s literally nothing on earth worse than a pair of soggy gloves. Choosing a Gore-Tex glove is always a safe bet on this front. No dramas.

As reliable as a Gore-Tex glove is though, a glove with a leather palm is also well worth considering; especially in terms of durability. Durability is well worth taking into account because the longer the gloves last, the better it is for the environment. Buying a more durable glove can also be a good move long term for your wallet, as it means you won’t have to keep buying new gloves every time winter rolls around.

“Another thing you should definitely consider before purchasing a pair of snowboard gloves are the conditions you will be using them in”

Another thing you should definitely consider before purchasing a pair of snowboard gloves are the conditions you will be using them in. If you’re all about the exploring the serious cold of the backcountry, for example, you’re going to want a very different product to someone who’s all about them slushy spring sessions.

The more insulation, the warmer the glove. However, if you’re about to tackle some extreme cold you might be better off investing in a pair of snowboard mitts – as they are often able to offer more warmth (although you do obviously sacrifice some hand dexterity if you go down this route).

“The more insulation, the warmer the glove”

For hose sunny spring laps, a mid-weight or neoprene (aka ‘pipe’) glove is probably your best bet as they are more low profile and made out of a more flexible material – making them ideal for grabs and hand drags whilst still keeping your hands safe from the cold.

Before walking away with a new pair of gloves, make sure they properly fit your hands. Squeezing your fingers into a small pair of gloves won’t be comfortable in the long run, but neither will nesting them inside something way too big. If the fit is too big or too small, it will also reduce the glove’s ability to keep your hands warm and dry – which is, ultimately speaking, the main reason you’re wearing them in the first place.

As for added features, most of the gloves here offer some sort of touchscreen-compatibility – making it easier for you to scroll through your phone without having to take the gloves off.

    686 Men GORE-TEX Vapor Glove

    PRICE: $80

Like the 686 Gore-Tex Vapor Mitt, the Vapor Glove is a new addition to the 686 line this winter. The Gore-Tex Plus Warm technology comes with 400G insulation on top of the glove and 120G on the palm, something which will ensure your hands feel nice and toasty throughout the whole day. Gore-Tex is breathable too, so any moisture created within will be able to evaporate out into the outside world.

If you know you’re about to face some serious cold, it may please you to hear that the gloves have a ‘Soundtouch Touchscreen Technology’. This means you won’t need to remove them when typing a text or getting a shot for the ‘gram. There are also wrist leashes attached to each glove, something which makes them harder to lose after taking them off.

Offered in sizes M to XL and a black, denim or brown/red colourway.

Dakine Bryan Fox Team Maverick GT Glove

    PRICE: N/A

Dakine’s teamed up with Bryan Fox and given their Maverick Glove a makeover. The Bryan Fox Team Maverick Gore-Tex Glove features a custom made BWF (Bryan William Fox) label that pays homage to Mt Hood.

Rating at 4/5 on the Dakine warmth index, the Maverick is warm indeed. For the insulation Dakine’s used 50% recycled polyester and for the shell 57% recycled polyester. This is also an extremely durable glove: 65% of the palm is made out of goat leather, which is basically as tough as it gets.

The Gore-Tex membrane is also reassuring when considering the glove’s long-lasting potential. Gore-Tex is the industry leader in the durability field (as well as the waterproof and breathability fields, of course).

The Dakine Bryan Fox Team Maverick GT Glove is offered in any size from S to XL.

Make sure to pair up the Dakine x Bryan Fox Gloves with the Dakine x Bryan Fox Backpack!

    Howl Union Glove

    PRICE: $75

New for this season, the Howl Union Glove is the perfect glove for all types of conditions. Ranking at 3/5 on the Howl warmth scale, you’ve got a glove here that won’t let your fingers freeze off.

A leather palm with rubber details adds to the glove’s durability score. Leather is a tough material that lasts for an impressively long time. However, if you’re continually grabbing your board or laying down your palms for a eurocarve, the lifeline of the glove might decrease – but then again, this isn’t the gloves fault (that’s your fault, you absolute Gnar-Dog).

The Howl Union Glove is also highly breathable and comes with a fleece lining that ensures the gloves wicking abilities. Offered in a green, black, yellow or pink colourway, this glove fits any hand from a size XS to XL.

    POW Gloves Highline Glove

    PRICE: N/A

Continuing the long-running relationship between POW Gloves and Coal, the two brands decided to introduce a completely new collab line for winter 2020/21 – The Highline collection.

The POW Gloves x Coal collab includes a handful of items, including our favourites, the Highline Glove. Even if it does bear a slight resemblance to a gardening glove (someone get Charlie Dimmock on the phone), the Highline Glove is a hundred times more suited to snowboarding.

Designed to take on the gnarly conditions of the Pacific North West, the gloves are a mix of suede and leather – making them incredibly durable. The removable liners are comfortable too, so if you’re done for the day and want your fingers to breathe a bit – strip down to the liners and enjoy a cold beer. You’ve earned one.

The POW Highline Gloves come in every size between S and XL.

    POW Gloves Vertex GTX Glove

    PRICE: $190

Just by looking at the POW Vertex Gore-tex Glove you know this glove means serious business. Resembling something you’d find on the hands of a motorbike gang member, the glove is designed to keep you from losing your fingers when tackling the gnarliest battles against nature.

For maximum durability, both the shell and palm are made using Grade A leather. The Gore-Tex insert ensures the gloves ability to keep the elements from getting in whilst also making sure any sweat will evaporate into the environment – leaving your hands nice, dry, and comfortable as a result. With that added insulation, you can also be sure that your hands are staying warm when faced with an icy snow blizzard.

If you’re looking for a durable glove that can handle anything thrown its way, the POW Vertex Gore-Tex Glove comes in size S to XL.

POW Gloves Women’s Chase Short Glove

    PRICE: $70

POW Gloves is well known for never sacrifing on quality. Whether they’re producing gloves for men or women, they always go above and beyond. Take the women’s Chase Short Glove, for example.

Offered in a neutral black or an eye-catching pink, the Chase glove is designed to last. Both the palm and the shell are manufactured using Grade A leather. For the insulation, meanwhile, POW’s chosen to go for the always reliable 3M Thinsulate.

Whatever climates you’re about to face, a glove’s waterproofness is always amongst its most important features. By adding a waterproof insert, you won’t need to worry about your hands getting wet here – even when the snow turns slushy.

The low-profile design, slim fit, and high functionality of the POW Chase Glove make it the perfect wrapping for female fingers. Available from size XS to L.
