Finally, an alternative competition with no pretensions, no illusions of grandeur, no claims to be ‘saving snowboarding’ (does it really need saving?) – just some good old fashion fun times riding and a bit of surrealness thrown in for good measure.
It is of course the annual Board Games event presented by Airblaster. In previous incantations it’s taken the form of -amongst other things – a pump track, a mogul field and random bumps and burms, but this year they went with the good old fashioned halfpipe with bits of junk to jib along the sides.
For a pipe event, the weather was absolute shit house, though sometimes that’s exactly what you need to make an event extra special, kind of like the ‘Spirit of the Blitz.’ Riding pipe, even mini ones, whilst it’s hammering down with snow can be terrifying, so even a bit of community spirit can go a long way.
Combine this with the inevitable surrealness of any Airblaster organised event and you’re on to a winner – the prizes on offer were a mixture of board games (geddit?) rather than prize cash, including Jenga and Connect 4. The message is clear, memories are more valuable than money.
This is the Dinosaurs Will Die team edit, we can only hope that there’ll be an official Airblaster one as well, we can’t get enough of watching this today.
