In a candid interview, British snowboarder Jamie Barrow admitted that his relentless pursuit of ground-based speed records stems from an inability to ride the lifts in ski resorts.
“I just couldn’t figure it out”, said Barrow, who recently became the fastest snowboarder to be towed by a car. “Even if the lifties slowed down the chair, I’d deck it before anyone was able to put the bar down.”
“It’s not something I felt comfortable admitting, so I focused on those stunts involving cars, and planes, and electric jet engines – anything to avoid humiliation”.
After setting his latest record in St Moritz, Jamie was convinced to once again try a chairlift, eventually managing it on his seventeenth attempt. Despite twisting his ankle during the dismount, he’d made the decision to refocus his efforts in snowboarding.
“This is definitely way better, and now I’m really looking forward to riding those steeps over there.”
“As soon as I’ve figured out how to use a poma.”
