Why We Chose The Jones Twin Sister: The consummate all-mountain snowboard.

A master of his craft, Jeremy Jones approaches snowboard design like a guy tasked with assembling the large hadron collider- this is science and evidence based. The Twin Sister has been rigorously tested and meticulously engineered to ensure it’s one of the most impressive women’s all-mountain snowboards available – and it shows.

“The Twin Sister is a true alpine smorgasbord”

Who Is The Jones Twin Sister For?

Ladies who want one snowboard to do it all, park laps for breakfast, and fresh powder for lunch, the Twin Sister is a true alpine smorgasbord. You’ll probably want to have progressed past your first few wobbly days on the hill, but otherwise there’s something for novices all the way to pros to enjoy.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

A true twin outline is always a winner in our book, the versatility it offers is unmatched. Yet like many modern all-mountain decks, the Twin Sister opts for some directional volume, giving a smidge more nose than tail to make riding in your preferred stance a little more palatable.

And yep, you guessed it: following the current all-terrain trend, the Twin Sister makes the most of a CamRock profile. The power and edge hold of camber, with the float and forgiveness of rocker. Easy peasy.

Where the Twin Sister differs from the rest of the market is their 3D contour base and Traction Tech 3.0 edges. The nose and tail are bevelled slightly creating a spoon-like hull effect to funnel snow to stop the tips digging in and to improve turn initiation, while the sidecut is disrupted in three key spots to increase edge hold. They’re relatively simple concepts, but they’ve been executed to perfection, well played Jeremy.

“A reliable, consistent, every day workhorse of a snowboard that’s really comfortable in a range of varying terrain and conditions”

Construction and Materials

There’s nothing basic about the internal makeup of the Twin Sister. Even though it’s hardly the most expensive of the Jones line, it still uses some seriously wolf whistle worthy ingredients: a lightweight and vibration absorbing dual wood core, scratch resistant bio-plastic topsheet, and a Sintered 8000 base that’s slicker than snot on a doorknob.

In terms of how it’ll ride, Jones uses the more easy going biax fibreglass option, this lay-up sandwiches the core and dictates how the board will respond to rider input. It’s slightly more forgiving and mellow than a beefier option, and makes the Twin Sister easier to manipulate underfoot. As well as this, the Twin Sister uses Jones’ ‘Forever Flex’ technology, which mimics putting the board through the ringer. This breaks in the board before you even step on it, and allows the flex and pop to remain consistent from day 1.

Monsieur Jones has made a name for himself as a staunch defender of Mother Earth so, as far as possible, the whole footprint of the Twin Sister (and the whole Jones line) is kept fairly low. They use recycled or eco-friendly materials where available, so while no snowboard is perfect, the Twin Sister at least strives towards the mark.

Roundup

Many women’s equivalent snowboards leave a little something to be desired but the Twin Sister is no younger sibling, this is the carbon copy of the most prominent all-mountain deck in recent times. It’s not as crazy as some others in the Jones line, but this is why we like it so much, it’s one for every day of the season, you don’t have to have feet of snow or Corbet’s Couloir to make the most of it. A reliable, consistent, every day workhorse of a snowboard that’s really comfortable in a range of varying terrain and conditions.

Pros:

  • Traction Tech 2.0 helps to grip on sketchier terrain
  • Thanks to it’s versatile profile and shape, it can genuinely perform over the whole mountain

Cons:

  • Jones aficionados may prefer something a little more specialist from the freeride-centric brand

Trade Secrets

Seth Lightcap – Nidecker Group

“Fun, forgiving and fast – three adjectives that don’t usually describe a single women’s all-mountain board model. Plenty of women’s board’s are friendly and forgiving, but they can’t handle speeds over third gear. Not the Twin Sister! This board has both a pretty face and a ripped bod that’s ready to shred as fast as you wanna go. The Twin Sister’s 3D Contour Base offers amazing float and helps eliminate edge catch, while the Traction Tech 2.0 edges help lock in turns on firm snow. The combo is undoubtedly confidence inspiring. Match all this epic tech with a beautiful new graphic by the illustrious Annie Brace and you have the ultimate women’s all-mountain board.”
