The battle has long raged between traditional bindings and speed entry, with two camps firmly entrenched in their views, occasionally sticking their heads above the parapets to hurl a jaded insult or snarky comment. At Whitelines we’re conscientious objectors of this war, we’re always stoked on new innovations and technology, we won’t condemn or herald for the sake of it, we’ll just give our honest opinions.
At the end of the day bindings, like pretty much everything in snowboarding, are a preference thing, there’s no black and white right or wrong. If you prioritise convenience and speed, then the K2 Clicker could be one to keep your eyes on.
“As for the Clicker x HB itself, K2 have poured decades of experience and binding know how into its design and production”
As for the Clicker x HB itself, K2 have poured decades of experience and binding know how into its design and production. Robust 6061-T6 aluminium mounting points sit in the heel and toe and lock your boot into place, providing a sturdy and secure interface between boot and binding.
When you’re done shredding or need to unclip to scoot through a lift line, a small lever sits on the medial side to release your boot. It sits pretty flush to the chassis and is cleverly placed on the inside of your leg to avoid external factors.
The adjustable heel cup can be altered to 3 different settings to account for boot size, so you can really dial in the right fit. The footbed is canted to 3 degrees, allowing your foot to sit in at a slight angle. This minor tweak can actually bring about some major results, it’s a more natural state for your foot to be in, allowing your knees and ankles to align, it can also help to alleviate knee pain, and offer more support when you’re rocking a wider stance.
“Take a closer look at what’s happening to the binding industry as a whole, it stood still for years and now there’s an explosion of innovation and evolution”
Are K2 Clicker x HB’s the future? Possibly, but variety is the spice of life and you’re never gonna get a full consensus with divisive issues like these. Quick entry bindings aren’t for everybody and our guess is they won’t ever really become the norm. That point aside, take a closer look at what’s happening to the binding industry as a whole, it stood still for years and now there’s an explosion of innovation and evolution.
Whether you sampled Clicker back in the day or this is your first speedy rodeo, the K2 Clicker X HB are here to shake things up. You never know until you try, right?
