Why we chose the Giro Method Snowboard Goggles: Super affordable meets super stylish and super tech.

It’d be fair to say that Giro products have been more commonly found in the heart of the peloton than the drop-in of the super pipe. This year’s all-new Method goggle signifies a change of direction for the brand. With the helping artistic hand of legendary skater, snowboarder and artist, John Cardiel, they’ve gone straight for snowboarding’s jugular and launched a goggle “designed with the core rider in mind”. Hands down, this was our test team’s favourite looking goggle of the year, with a lens that could just about make a dog see colour.

It’s clearly tapping into the freestyle end of the market – just take the name, for starters. The frame is designed to sit as close to your head as possible to provide the maximum field of view for spotting your landings out the corners of your eye. Whichever ever way you’re looking, the Vivid technology has been given the once over from the world-renowned Zeiss Optics, so contrast and clarity don’t come much sharper than they do with these lenses – of which you get two.

For those more concerned how they look from the outside-in (it’s okay, we’re all guilty of it), the Method goggles have you covered. They’re Adapt Strap compatible, meaning you can swap out for any of Giro’s compatible strap options with a simple slide ‘n’ click interface. Not that you’d want to with the Cardiel collab option, anyway.

“You still get all the premium features thrown in for good measure”

You still get all the premium features thrown in for good measure. Giro’s EXV Expansion View Technology gives you solid peripheral vision right into the corners of the frame. There’s little chance of them steaming up either with the EVAK venting system and anti-fog treatment. And for those who ride with a helmet, or glasses, the Methods are designed to be compatible with both.

It’s a barrel load of gadgetry that doesn’t require a fistful of cash. Whether you’re looking from the inside out or outside in, the Methods are as stylish and functional as they come.

Tester’s Verdict

Rob McCreathWhitelines

“Now we’re talking! The Method is the all-new goggle from Giro this year and is without a doubt the raddest addition to the family so far. To look at them in your hand, you’d be convinced they cost twice as much; the same goes for when you’re looking through them. You get the same Vivid lenses (2 of them) as you find in the most expensive models, and all the sciencey stuff to stop them fogging up or stinking out the gondola, but for a substantially smaller price tag then even some base layers I’ve seen this winter.

“Giro, I was wrong to judge you. You guys are pretty damn cool”

The Adapt Strap is a stroke of genius. Keep your goggles looking fresh every season and swicth out for colourways or collabs that you’re stoked on, but keep the consistency of a quality lens with loads of peripheral vision. Giro, I was wrong to judge you. You guys are pretty damn cool.”
