Salomon District 2018-2019 Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Salomon District here

Salomon’s signature ‘Shadowfit’ system isn’t for one particular type of riding; you’ll find it on the hard-charging Quantum, as well as the more all-round Defender. If you ask us, however, it’s best suited to freestyle models like the Salomon District.

Shadowfit’s soft heelcup may seem a bit odd at first, but it’s no gimmick. By making it malleable, Salomon has ensured it’ll fit any boot like a glove. The Kevlar wire that runs through it provides a strong backbone without compromising the effect, and improves response too.

The way that the Salomon District bindings allow you to shift your weight so freely from one end of the board to the other is ideal for certain kinds of freestyle riding. Whether you want to bone out a grab or indulge in some tranny finding, these give you movement where you need it without compromising on edge-to-edge performance.

The highback is unique to this model, with an asym shape and easy positioning options. The last thing you want when lapping the park is a binding with pressure points, but the heelcup, highback and straps on the District work together to eliminate that possibility.

If you’ve got a bit more wedge to spend then the Salomon Hologram is stronger and techier, but the Salomon District will bring a smile to the face of any open-minded freestyle rider.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthiewhitelines.com

“I’ve yet to meet anyone that’s not got on with Salomon’s Shadowfit system. I certainly like it, and the District bindings are an affordable way in.

As you as you’ve stepped in these, you’re tempted to shift your weight around the board more – probably just because you can. The relative softness is great fun – you can really feel the flex with every press.

Not only are the straps light and comfortable, you can fine-tune them to sit exactly right on each boot. While the underfoot cushioning isn’t as lauded as the stuff found on some other Salomon bindings, it’s still excellent.

If you haven’t tried Shadowfit and are looking for a freestyle-forward model, I highly recommend these. Maybe you’ll be the one guy who isn’t into them, but I wouldn’t bet on it.”
