Salomon District 2019-2020 Snowboard Bindings Review

The Salomon District is a middle of the road flex binding, with top of the line construction and performance. Made for riders who are looking to slash and stomp all over the mountain.

The mid flex is assisted by the Shadow Fit heelcup, which lets you get tweaky and gives you a larger range of lateral motion. If you’re a lil’ park rat hell bent on tail pressing rails then Shadow Fit should make your nipples tingle.

Whilst they’re softer side to side, the Kevlar Stringers running through the heelcup keep the edge to edge transitions nice and solid. You won’t lose out on carving ability when you’re strapping into these bad boys.

The ankle strap is ergonomically designed to fit round your boot better, and the padded strap gives an extra snug fit across your ankle to give more power when you’re really laying into your turns. The toe strap has cut outs to reduce weight and wrap around the front of your boot more securely.

The Eva foam footpad helps to soak up chatter from your board and absorbs a bit of the impact as you’re stomping those hectic landings. It’s also size adjustable so you can get the optimum size for your boot and lay waste to unnecessary ‘toe-verhang’.

Tester’s Verdict

“Year after year the District pops up at test events, and though it doesn’t sing out quite as loud as something like the Hologram, you know that you can rely on it regardless of what board you combo it up with. Comfy, supportive but still tweakable, and with enough drive through the turns for most scenarios, this is an all rounder with staying power.

This year I took it out with the all mountain directional Super 8 and it proved just as happy as it had with more freestyle oriented decks in the past. Pressure points are never a worry with these in your setup thanks to the some good design sense and the Shadowfit/strap combo, and Salomon’s strap adjust system lets you set them and go in no time.”

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

“I’ve yet to meet anyone that’s not got on with Salomon’s Shadowfit system. I certainly like it, and the District bindings are an affordable way in.

As you as you’ve stepped in these, you’re tempted to shift your weight around the board more – probably just because you can. The relative softness is great fun – you can really feel the flex with every press.

Not only are the straps light and comfortable, you can fine-tune them to sit exactly right on each boot. While the underfoot cushioning isn’t as lauded as the stuff found on some other Salomon bindings, it’s still excellent.

If you haven’t tried Shadowfit and are looking for a freestyle-forward model, I highly recommend these. Maybe you’ll be the one guy who isn’t into them, but I wouldn’t bet on it.”
