UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Salomon Gypsy Grom here
A sister model to the Salomon Villain Grom, the Salomon Gypsy Grom snowboard is cut from a similar cloth; take a much-loved adult deck, scale it down, and tweak the tech to better suit young folks – in this case, girls.
The Salomon Gypsy Grom is suited to beginners, especially given its de-tuned nose and tail and soft, forgiving flex, but it’s a better fit for the emerging freestyle rider who wants something with a bit more oomph than most entry-level boards.

The ‘Popster’ core is more advanced than what you’ll find on most kids’ models; divided into alternating thick and thin sections of Aspen wood, the board can flex where it’s most effective, delivering more ollie power.
Combined with the profile, which raises between the feet and has rocker sections at each end, there’s plenty of pop on hand when it’s needed. A lightweight biax fibreglass makes the Gypsy Grom easy for even the slightest of young shredders to manipulate, and the base is fast without requiring excessive maintenance to remain so.
The graphic on the Salomon Gypsy Grom is an exact match for the full-sized version, an ever-present fixture of the world’s biggest and best parks. If your kid isn’t into that, however, and wants something a bit less bold, then they could always try the Villain Grom instead.
