They say: Effortless on all terrain types.
We say: Underneath the old-school longboard-inspired graphic, this stick packs in an impressive amount of tech – especially for that price. Not the lightest or most stable, but the pintail means it floats beautifully in pow and sails sweetly on hardpack.
Tester says: Handled everything no problems. Smooth and fast.

About Volkl
- Building boards since: 1997
- HQ: Baar, Switzerland
- History lesson: Like many of the old-school ski brands on this list, Volkl was founded as a family business. Georg Volkl started building horse-drawn carts out of a workshop in Bavaria in 1875 and the company passed from father to son until 1992, when it was bought out by a Swiss company. In the early 90s, Volkl’s German factory built boards for the likes of Nitro, Sims and Santa Cruz, but it wasn’t until 1997 that they started making them under their own name.
- Ridden by: After years of being written off as a ski brand, Volkl has now officially become cool. Beloved by the kind of Austrian park rat who’ll throw a clean cab nine then wash it down with at least nine pints. And probably end up dancing on the tables to some god-awful oompa-beat trance.
