The Details:

This winter marks the return of the YES Typo, which actually appeared in YES’ first line of boards back in 2009. It was replaced by the redesigned YES Basic, which as regular readers of our gear dispatches will know has become one of our favourite boards. The new incarnation of the YES Typo is essentially a souped-up Basic, with a few added features built on that most solid of foundations.

Similarities between the two include the poplar core, biax glass and ‘Camrock’ profile – all hallmarks of a no-nonsense all-rounder that delivers plenty of performance without venturing into pricier territory.

The Typo also has the same ‘Underbite’ outline, with the sidecut retreating slightly at the bindings to focus the pressure where it’s most needed during the turns.

Where it differs is in the slightly directional shape and sintered base, meaning that this will handle aggressive riding better than the Basic. Switch riding and freestyle are still very much on the table, but this would better suit those who dabble in tricks rather than focus on them.

The Basic is no slouch, but if you like the sound of something with similar specs that’s even better suited for hard charging, the answer is the YES Typo.
