UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 CAPiTA Defenders Of Awesome here
The Details:
Sharing its name with one of the best snowboard movies in recent years – and, of course, its sequel – the eye-catching CAPiTA Defenders Of Awesome returns for 2015/16.
Other than short flat sections near the contact points to reduce the chance of edge catches, the DOA has traditional camber on a twin shape, making it a top choice for freestyle riders who prefer the classic bend. With its sintered base it’ll charge at the big features, but it’s not so stiff that you can’t play around with it on the piste too.
It’s definitely built to withstand a beating; the mostly poplar core has beech sections running the length of the board, directly underneath the inserts. There’s a carbon fibre beam on each side between the inserts and the sidewall, which itself is reinforced with Kevlar to make for a seriously tough (yet light) stick.
As always the topsheet graphics of the Defenders Of Awesome are made to be noticed, and this year they’ve improved the image resolution with brand new printing tech. It’s anything but style-over-substance, though, so expect the performance to what really gets people talking about this board. The Awesome can consider itself defended for another winter.
