DCP rides the PYL – or, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing, legendary pro and company co-founder David Carrier-Porcheron chooses the YES Pick Your Line when he heads out for a blast in the backcountry.

“If you’re wanting to feel the G’s all over the mountain and in all conditions, the YES PYL is a top, ahem, pick”

The YES PYL is definitely one for exploring uncharted territory. Its slightly tapered shape is ideal for achieving float, and it has a reassuring stiffness that allows you to charge at high speed and kick up the biggest rooster tails of your life. You need to be fairly ‘on it’ to tame this mostly-camber beast, but rocker sections at each ends work with the taper to reduce the amount of effort required to stay on top of things.

If it’s low tide, you can pick your line on the piste just as easily as off it. YES ‘underbite’ edge – where the steel retreats inwards at your feet – has been applied here in a way that works together with the taper. Basically, it means there’s no loss of edge hold when it’s firm.

Intermediate riders need not apply, but if you’re wanting to feel the G’s all over the mountain and in all conditions, the YES PYL is a top, ahem, pick.

Tester’s Verdict

Tom Copseyonboardmag.com

“‘This is a powerful board’. Those were the first five words of notes I wrote down after stepping off this steed – and given that it’s ridden by the hard-charging DCP that’s not surprising.

“It’s a carving machine as much as a powder machine”

To get the most out of the PYL you’ll need to ride hard and fast – if you do, you’ll be rewarded with a responsive freeride board that is full of life and power.

It features what YES call ‘tapered underbite’ – a blending of sidecut radii that allows the board to have a bigger nose and narrower tail (always a benefit when ripping pow) but without succumbing to washing out when you need the edges to hold. In fact, the opposite was true: putting the PYL on its edge on hardpack it just held and held and held, and then fired you into the next turn to repeat.

It’s a carving machine as much as a powder machine and would be an excellent option for riders wanting to dig trenches, charge chutes, drop cliffs and kick up roosters.”
