UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 YES FunInc here

2017/18 is the first year for the YES Fun Inc., which the brand has developed as an answer to “dumbed-down kids boards”. Aimed at the 8-12-year-olds, this eschews a lot of the more complicated tech to deliver a fun, predictable ride.

“It’s the only YES board to go with a full rocker profile, which lowers the chances of cutting an edge”

It’s the only YES board to go with a full rocker profile, which lowers the chances of catching an edge. It does mean that a little more effort is required to initiate turns, and doesn’t feel as stable at high speeds, but the majority of kids won’t have any issues with this. Plus if there’s powder, it’s easier for a smaller rider to keep that nose out of trouble.

Like many kids boards it has a full poplar core and biax glass, and there’s little need to go overboard with tech in the early days of shredding. It makes for a solid, dependable ride though, as does the classic radial sidecut. It’s also got a tough extruded base, so less upkeep is required (which is surely good news for parents).

The YES Fun Inc. has much in common with the ever-popular YES Basic, albeit with some considerations for smaller riders thrown in – and that’s as sturdy a foundation as any young ripper can hope for.

Tester’s Verdict

Punki – Whitelines Grom Team

“This is a good board, although it felt a bit heavy though sometimes and felt quite fat compared to my feet. It was a bit slower to turn than some of the other boards. The simple, bold graphics are cool.”

“The kids looked comfortable straight-lining through spring crud, but it looked slower edge-to-edge than other boards…”

Dad’s comments

“The kids went OK on this, if not spectacularly. It was a big board for its size, if that makes sense – it was pretty wide and seemed to have lots of nose. The kids looked comfortable straight-lining through spring crud, but it looked slower edge-to-edge than some other boards.

It would work better for a kid with big feet who wants to ride like DCP in powder.”
