The clue’s in the name here. The Pro20 has been engineered with a very specific type of rider in mind and, unless you’re brave/wreckless, those without a few seasons’ experience riding powder need not apply. This is a new board for 2021 – taking the design from the hugely popular 420 and amplifying almost everything about it.
The Directional Weird shape remains the same, although the Pro20 is only offered in a 152 for its debut season. YES. have thrown in an extra 2mm of camber beneath the feet to generate some added grip and response on all terrain. As much as we imagine pros spending their time on big-mountain heli lines, most put far more time in and around the resort, shredding and refining their riding. The Pro20 is designed with this in mind – it’s near on perfect in blower conditions but surprisingly worthy as a daily driver.

The core has been upgraded from pure poplar to a blend of poplar and paulownia, with two carbon stringers configured down the length to add a whole load of snap, crackle and fizz to the ride. No surprises, then, that the flex rating almost doubles from the 420 to this Pro version. If you’re not committed to pushing this thing, the more forgiving model is the one for you, my friend.
The base has also been upgraded from extruded to YES.’ high performing Sintered True option. The Pro20’s ability to turn on a dime is now matched with the requirement of having to do so – those trees will come up fast!
This board is built for more than just the epic days out in the powder, it has the capacity to stand up as an all-mountain freeride resort weapon. Those that can master the spec’d up technology will be in store for a hectically good time any day of the season, regardless of the conditions.
