The YES. 420 is one of the most iconic snowboards of the 2000’s, it kickstarted the short and fat revolution that spread like wildfire through the industry. The head honchos at YES. wanted every powder hound, regardless of age, to be able to experience riding this absolute sled. Enter the YES. PowInc- a scaled down version of their award winning 420 made specifically for kids.

Based around the same outline as the 420, the PowInc. relies on width rather than length to keep it afloat. The overall surface area of the board is increased, rather than just the vertical height, creating a board that handles deep snow far better than you’d expect for its size. Keeping the snowboard short and wide, as opposed to long, gives optimum float with the added benefit of crazy manoeuvrability.

The extra width found in the Pow Inc isn’t just useful for deep snow, it gives you the ability to ride flatter binding angles on hardpack without the worry of toe or heel drag. Teenagers feet are notorious for outgrowing anything and everything, so while your mini me is still shooting up, having a board with some extra leeway in the width ain’t gonna be a bad thing.

The blended rocker profile features a huge uplifted nose to ensure float regardless of how deep the snow is. Unlike the captain of the Titanic, when we say the word ‘unsinkable’, we mean it. A short tail puts power under the back foot, opening up the board for aggressive slashes and sprays.

A soft flexing poplar core and biax glass make the PowInc. manageable for lighter riders and keep the board feeling playful. They’ll be able to dominate the board and keep it responsive without it being overbearing.

Able to turn on a dime when you get into a sticky situation between some trees or throw up a fat spray on a loaded wind lip, the YES. PowInc. is the ideal weapon for groms yearning for some out of bounds adventures. New for 2021 is the bigger 135cm size to further widen the appeal.

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

Whitelines Grom Team

*As the board remains unchanged, we’ve used our 2018/19 Grom Team Verdict*

Lightning

“This is the best board I’ve ever ridden. I rode powder, piste and park in the same day and it was all brilliant. I did back flips, the biggest cliff I’ve ever done, a really nice 180 and some boxes and it was brilliant. It also did wheelies, which I loved. It is a powder board that can do everything.”

Ella

“I really enjoyed this board, it was really light and playful, but at 125cm it was quite short for me and felt a little bit scary sometimes when I was going fast.”

Dad’s Comments

“For the right rider, this board was nothing short of incredible. Ella was a little too big so struggled with it, but for Lightning it was the perfect size. His usual board is a 130cm, but stepping down to a 125cm with float lifted his confidence with every run.

If there is such a thing as a quiver killer for kids, this is it; it can slay powder, piste and park, so is ideal. It actually became very difficult to get Lightning to test other boards, as he only wanted to ride this.”
