Why we chose the Yes Hello Snowboard:Hello, is it me you’re looking for?” We’re stoked to say hola to this new cruisy resort ripper.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Hello”? You might have visions of a moustachioed man crooning sweet nothings in your ear, but Lionel Richie eat your heart out, this is the Hello giving us special tingles now. Brand spanking new for 2021 and already making waves in the industry, the Yes Hello is a playful all-mountain maverick serving piles of steaming hot fun on a platter, and bringing a helluva lot of bang for your buck.

For guys that spent most of their careers throwing wild parties, fighting bouncers and jumping off shit, the YES. guys sure do know how to make a snowboard that’s both high tech and high performance. The proprietary technology that flies out of their R&D labs is mind boggling and all their snowboards have a specific audience and place in the line up.

“The Yes Hello is a playful all-mountain maverick serving piles of steaming hot fun on a platter, and bringing a helluva lot of bang for your buck”

The YES. crew are often thought of for their innovative backcountry freestyle shapes, but there’s a whole fleet of snowboards that are built for ripping the resort, chomping sidehits and safely dipping your toes into the high seas of the sidecountry.

With its classic directional twin profile, the Hello is one such snowboard. A tad more volume in the nose gives a bit of extra float when the snow gets a bit deeper, puts more power through the back leg for pumping turns and retains its versatility when you want to get riding switch on lock.

The CamRock profile is your goldilocks formula for all-terrain riding. Loose and surfy rockered tips with a more dynamic camber midbody opens up doors all over the hill. You can push it and rely on the positive camber to have your back when you start picking up speed and getting some airtime, and the more mellow nose and tail provide a nice hookfree ride.

Where the Hello is going to outplay other snowboards in its category and price bracket is with its use of YES’ signature Underbite edge profile. This allows this relatively soft board to have the bite and solid carving ability of a board far stiffer. The edges are pulled in by the bindings, creating three defined zones focusing on the initiation, hold, and release of the turn. This distributes your weight giving more pressure where you need it during each individual stage, with the end result being a smooth carve with more grip than you’d think possible.

The full poplar core provides a cost effective and predictable ride, retaining durability properties similar to far more expensive decks, but without the hefty price tag. Biax laminates are an inexpensive option for creating a playful and relaxed flex pattern that’ll ride the same day in and day out, season after season.

While the Hello shares much of its DNA with the award-winning YES. HEL, it’s been spec’d down to make it an easier going ride and to reflect the price difference. Those looking for an aggressive charger would do better to stick with the beefier HEL, but if a more mellow vibe floats your boat then say bonjour to the… Hello.

Tester Verdict 2020/21

Tarun Knapp – Surfdome

“I’ve not ridden a YES. board before but have always heard good things from mates, so was pretty stoked to try this. This is exactly what an all-mountain board should feel like! It could actually do a bit of everything- piste, powder, park without feeling out of its depth. Okay, so some of the more freeride-centric models I’ve ridden would beat it out riding mega deep pow, but the Hello is so versatile that it can handle it.

“The easy-going mellow flex was just fun to be on, you didn’t have to try too hard at all”

It felt nice and stable when I was just blasting around, and held it edge quite well even when it was a bit icy. The easy-going mellow flex was just fun to be on, you didn’t have to try too hard at all and could just play around jumping off things and doing little spins on piste.

I liked the versatility of this, if I was going to take only one board away for a week’s holiday this just might be it.”
