Why we chose the Salomon Gypsy Snowboard: FUN. FUN. FUN.

For many female rippers out there, the Salomon Gypsy is a modern classic; a board where you know exactly what you’re going to get as soon as you strap into it. Year after year, the Gypsy keeps on getting the ladies stoked on riding and so it feels only natural for it to be included in the Whitelines 100.

“However, it still mainly holds a camber profile, which allows plenty of pop and stability, making turns feels effortless, so you’re able to move quick and easy through any kind of snow”

This is first and foremost a park board. However, the camrock profile, or rock out camber as Salomon likes to call it, makes the Gypsy a very versatile board. It’s flat in between the feet, and thus ideal for rails, while the small rocker parts at each end makes it ideal for pressing out on boxes. However, it still mainly holds a camber profile, which allows plenty of pop and stability, making turns feels effortless. The bottom line: you’re able to move quick and easy through any kind of snow on it.

Not only does the profile of the board help to make it the manoeuvrable maniac that it is, the Popster Booster core also plays a big part in it too. This core provides plenty of pop, whilst ensuring dampened landings. Thanks to the sintered base, the Gypsy is also fast – meaning it’s unlikely you’ll be the last one to hit the après. And some say you can’t have it all…

Despite the Gypsy being a park board, it works just as good on the slopes as it does for jibbing. Due to the board being as shock absorbent as it is, it’s an ideal choice for fun spring sessions. When the slopes get slushy and you can’t avoid shredding through bumps, the Gypsy keeps you stable while you cruise your way through the fields. The Gypsy makes runs through the bumpy stuff surprisingly fun. You might even find yourself deliberately aiming to charge through those piles of snow instead of avoiding them.

“Don’t let the low-price fool you on this one – the Gypsy is one of the finest female boards out there”

Don’t let the low-price fool you on this one, the Gypsy is one of the finest female boards out there. This board provides great edge hold and stability while still remaining the lively free-spirited animal we love it for being. Never change.

Tester’s Verdict

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“Anyone longing for a reliable companion to keep you on the right path, without restraining you too much, this is it. It’s the Patsy to your Edina, the one who’ll make it right when you feel like you’ve managed to eff it all up. It is abso-effin-lutely fabulous!

“It’s fun, it’s stable and it is definitely my go to board when spring arrives”

I love the Salomon Gypsy. It’s fun, it’s stable and it is definitely my go to board when spring arrives. It’s incredible how a board can be simultaneously so much fun and yet so stable. The medium flex doesn’t feel too stiff, as I sometimes find it to be on other boards with the same flex.

Thanks to the camber you’ll hold an edge really well.

It’s super playful and if you love to cruise down the pistes with your crew, while hitting anything from small to big bumps on the sides, this is the board you’d want to do it with.”

Trade Secrets

James Fuller – Salomon, UK

“Rock out camber makes for a lively forgiving snappy ride, sintered EG base makes you clear and gap on a kicker. Quadralized side cut makes switch riding effortless as well as a forgiving with gripping edge hold while also making the Gypsy fun”

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

“Honestly, this is the best board I rode all season! I decided to ride it on my last day of my season, in early May, so safe to say it was slushy and sunny, and I just wanted to fool around on the pistes. And I definitely chose the right board for that.

“Sessioning side hits and landing on slushy pistes never felt so stable”

I had so much fun; sessioning side hits and landing on slushy pistes never felt so stable. Turning into little side bumps also felt effortless, so even though the board was stable it wasn’t stiff. I also gave it a couple of tries through the park and it was brilliant there too.

Anyone who’s ever been to Kaunertal Spring Break may know that on the last day of riding you might feel a bit wobbly and, well, not at your fittest… Considering this, I still felt really good riding this board.

It is fun, stable, and easy to control. If you’re looking for a board for fooling around on the piste and hitting slushy side hits, this is definitely it!”

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

Joy Dutchsnowboard-asylum.com

“The Gypsy is a board that never gets boring – it keeps every run fresh and fun. The softer flex pattern is perfect for playing around on, but never once felt like it got jittery as I picked up speed.

“A great board for playing around on, with loads of pop and playfulness”

The fast base meant that it was effortless to gain speed on the run-in to kickers or features, even when the snow was heavy and slushy. I rode the board nice and short, which gave it a great swing weight for spins, and despite being shorter it still was able to turn nicely and put it some decent carves.

A great board for playing around on, with loads of pop and playfulness – fantastic for the whole mountain.”
