The white room – it’s where we all want to be. For your best chances of finding it, head off the beaten track on a splitboard that will allow you to truly let rip and blast through the steep and deep. As the name suggests, the Rome White Room is just the kind of thing you need.

“When it’s time to kick up big clouds of the fluffy stuff, this won’t disappoint”

The freeride-friendly profile features a rockered nose combined with camber towards the tail. This greatly minimises the effort required to stay afloat, without sacrificing power when you need it. Ride aggressively one minute, surfy the next.

Four carbon rods run through the Rome White Room – two on each half, targeted at the nose and tail whilst leaving the waist unencumbered. As well as increasing ollie power, these stiffen the board torsionally just enough to increase response without tipping over into twitchiness, and deliver explosive power when exiting a turn. When it’s time to kick up big clouds of the fluffy stuff, this won’t disappoint.

The triax fibreglass has been slightly tweaked this year, with a 45-degree layout for a more responsive ride. The base is super fast too, so anyone wanting to go hell-for-leather is well catered for here. There’s always the risk of clipping a rock when out of bounds, so the Rome White Room features extra-strong sidewalls with elastic material for absorbing impacts.

“Strips of ultra-light wood are inserted alongside hollow air channels, resulting in a reliably strong board without any unnecessary weight”

When it comes to splitboard gear, the lighter the better, which is why the Rome White Room features the brand’s highest-quality core. While mostly poplar, strips of ultra-light wood are inserted alongside hollow air channels, resulting in a reliably strong board without any unnecessary weight.

The Rome White Room uses the popular Karakoram clip system, so separating and combining the two halves is a piece of cake. Female riders can check out the Rome Powder Room, which is essentially the same board but with a few modifications to suit smaller, lighter riders.

“This board ticks all the splitboard requirements without going too left of field. A solid ‘powder S’ directional design allows you plenty of nose to stay afloat, matched with more strength in the tail (thanks to the two carbon rods) for power in your turns and pop when you need it.

“It’s fun to ride, easy to handle and works in all snow types”

Medium flex throughout the rest of board inspires confidence which means it’s fun to ride, easy to handle and works in all snow types. If you want a Ronseal board, you won’t be disappointed with the Rome White Room.

Remember that you will need to kit it out with all the extras required to split-up so don’t hold back when making the investment on a decent set of bindings, crampons, puck set and skins. These do make a big difference as to how your board ultimately performs.”

Trade Secrets

Thomas Delfino – Team Rider, Rome

My favourite tool to access some untouched, uncrowded, full-of-powder areas is definitely the White Room.

I’ve been lucky enough to bring it to the steepest lines in AK – the kind of terrain where you shit yourself on the top of the line, but the White Room was giving me the control and the safety I needed.

Then in the Balkans in some more mellow terrain, it provided me with all the fun required to spray an infinite wind lip. I love this board.

The core of the Rome White Room blends traditional poplar with ultra light wood and hollow air channels, reducing the weight significantly compared to a typical splitboard.
